Isle of Capri Expansion Ready to Open

BILOXI, Mississippi – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "The Isle of Capri's $170 million expansion will offer plenty of ways to party or chill.

"Soak in a whirlpool tub and watch a plasma television. Take a dip in the hotel's cascading pool and let your troubles pour off its infinity edge. Get rid of the tension with a massage.

"…The attractions will open in stages, starting May 28 when the first four floors in the new wing of the 12-story hotel are ready for occupancy. The finale occurs later this year with the opening of the new casino following a two-week closure between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The existing barge will be replaced with a bigger casino that will almost triple the gambling space.

"The Isle, the first legal casino to open in the South, is making the big investment to stay on par with the the Coast's changing market. Casino resorts in recent years have enlarged their gambling barges, opened nightclubs and offered full-service spas. That competition is expected to intensify with the late summer opening of the Biloxi Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

"…The hotel's Flamingo Bay Ballroom, the Isle's new entertainment venue, will seat 1,000 to 1,200 people.

"…The rest of the hotel is scheduled to be open by July 4. The Isle will be adding about 125 hotel employees and 350 casino workers when the new gambling barge is moored later this year. A recent job fair received good response, but the Isle is still taking job applications at the human resources office at its casino, said spokesman Rich Westfall…"
