February Revenue at Detroit Casinos Drops

15 March 2005

Las Vegas Sun

DETROIT, Michigan -- Two of the city's three casinos saw revenue fall last month, but the local industry still brought in slightly more cash than last year, thanks to a good month at MGM Grand Detroit.

February revenue increased 9 percent to $39.6 million over last year, according to figures released Monday by the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

Revenue at MotorCity Casino fell 3 percent to $36.1 million, while Greektown Casino's revenue fell 5 percent to $26.6 million.

Combined revenue for the three casinos rose $786,000 to $101.4 million.

Either MGM Grand or MotorCity is expected to change hands in the coming months. MGM Grand's owner, MGM Mirage, is in the process of acquiring Mandalay Resorts, the majority owner of MotorCity. Michigan law prohibits one company from owning more than 10 percent in two Detroit casinos.
