Ask the Slot Expert: Withholding at New York's racinos

12 June 2013
Love your columns and the great advice. This past weekend I was playing at Monticello Raceway in New York, which is operated by the New York Lottery. I was playing a Vegas Hits slot machine and hit one of the bonuses and was fortunate enough to win $690. Right after the bonus, the voucher printed out and said "limited voucher" above the $690. ... Ask the Slot Expert: Wrapping up tipping at slot machines

5 June 2013
Here are some more comments about tipping: Regarding the tipping of attendants at slot machines, my personal rule is if they come back with my payout quickly, then I tip them. If they take forever, then I don't. I tell them this. I have waited at machines for over an hour at times to get my payout, which is a ridiculous length of time. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Tipping for hand pays on slot machines

29 May 2013
When I win a large hand pay on a slot I usually tip the attendant something, but not necessarily in the hundreds of dollars. I've thought about this for a bit and wonder why any tip should be given. A tip is supposed to be an added amount paid for good service or for service above and beyond the average. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: How much should I tip for a slot jackpot?

22 May 2013
I noticed at Trump Taj Mahal that the reel-spinning Wheel of Fortune machines have been replaced with video slots. Does that make the jackpot harder to hit? Are all the progressive jackpots linked to all casinos in AC? Thanks, Mike Dear Mike, I haven't seen the PAR sheet for the video Wheel of ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Can one slot machine affect another?

15 May 2013
Hey John! Regarding the "what's that slot music" question... One suggestion would be to use any of the smart phone "song identifier" apps. I've used the FREE "Sound Hound" app for some time and it works great. Occasionally, I'll hear a song or tune on the TV (usually in a commercial) that I'd love to have, but don't recognize. ... Ask the Slot Expert: Calculating the long-term payback of an online slot

8 May 2013
I was trying to deconstruct some slot machines to be able to calculate probabilities and return. I recorded a video [of some Boss Media-based slots] and started taking note of each symbol in the order they showed on the reels, and noticed that the sequence seemed to be random because I couldn't find a pattern to determine the whole reel strip. ... Ask the Slot Expert: Should I stay at a hot machine?

1 May 2013
In March 2013, I received a card in the mail from Pearl River Resort. The card said that they missed me. Come back and I would be eligible to play for free under the new member program. On the first visit they would reimburse me up to $500 gaming losses on the first day of play. After losing over $500 I anticipated my reimbursement. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: More on Megabucks odds

24 April 2013
I know that the Psuedo-Random Number Generator (PRNG) actually spits out a pre-determined series of numbers that can be known if you know which generator is being used and the 'seed' number. My question is this: Let's say you need to hit 1 out of 368 symbols on virtual reels #1, #2 and #3 to win the Megabucks. ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Changing the odds of hitting the Megabucks jackpot

17 April 2013
Dear Mr. Robison: I enjoy reading the Slot Expert blog on Casino City Times. I have a question about the Megabucks slot machine. Someone won the Megabucks progressive jackpot on April 10th. This win occurred only five months after the previous jackpot win. Due to the short period between jackpots being ... (read more)

Ask the Slot Expert: Does stopping when you're ahead work on slots?

10 April 2013
Last week you wrote: A group in the Midwest was able to figure out the RNG function in a video poker machine and, with that information, they were able to figure out the five cards that would be used to replace discards. Obviously, they were caught. "Caught" implies "and prosecuted for cheating" to me. ... (read more)
