John Grochowski Gaming Guru - Page 51The Three Card Poker problem28 December 2017
QUESTION: In Three Card Poker, how should I divide my bets between ante-play and Pair Plus? Should I bet equal amounts on them? Should I divide my bets so my Pair Plus is twice my ante? The latter is kind of my working theory, since whenever I bet after seeing my cards, that would bring my ante-play combination up to the same amount as the Pair Plus. ... (read more)
New slots and veteran players24 December 2017
Reaching out to new generations while keeping current players happy is a constant challenge for the slot machine industry. Not every player is going to attracted to every game. Video slots with free-spin bonuses command the majority of play, but pick'em bonuses have a niche as do wheel-spin games, mystery progressives, community-style games and even three-reel games. ... More loose slots21 December 2017
QUESTION: Why don't the slot machine companies put higher paybacks on their machines? Wouldn't that give them a competitive edge? If Bally had 97% machines and IGT's were 90%, it seems like everybody would flock to play the Bally games. ANSWER: It's not the slot manufacturers who decide what payback percentages are on casino floors. ... (read more)
Playing with Dad17 December 2017
Judd, an East Coast reader who contacted me recently, suddenly has a companion for casino jaunts: his father. "I've been playing off and on for close to 30 years, ever since my bachelor party in Atlantic City," he said. "In all that time, I've never been able to get Dad to come with me. "It changed when he went on a daytrip with his seniors group. ... (read more)
Big slot wins14 December 2017
QUESTION: My sister-in-law wins on slots a lot, and I mean big money. She won two $20,000 jackpots last month, and this isn't the first time she's had runs like that. I don't know how many big jackpots she's had, but it has to be a dozen or more of $10,000-plus in the last three or four years. I asked her ... (read more)
What do you want?10 December 2017
Different players are looking for different things in casinos. We all want to win, of course, but we don't all have the same dedication to finding the games with the lowest house advantage and then studying to cut that edge to the bone. Some players just want to have fun, and let the wins come when they may. ... (read more)
Improving video poker play7 December 2017
QUESTION: I've been trying to improve my video poker strategy by using software that warns me when I make a mistake. I started with Jacks or Better and thought I had figured out straights to where I was drawing when I had 5-6-7-8 and another low card but not when I had 5-6-7-9. Outside straights vs. ... (read more)
Casino Solitaire3 December 2017
Long before I ever visited Las Vegas, I heard tales of solitaire being offered as a gambling game. I've never actually seen the game in casinos, and have never quite been sure it really ever was offered. Still, the idea of solitaire as a casino game has persisted in the Las Vegas one-card-at-a-time mode on computer solitaire games. ... (read more)
The metal detectors are here30 November 2017
QUESTION: My cousin go and I to casinos very often in South Florida. We were discussing casino security after the mass shooting in Las Vegas and were wondering why casinos don't use metal detectors of some sort. With money, gambling and alcohol in one place, a situation is bound to happen. Do the casinos ... (read more)
Playing it your way26 November 2017
Some players know exactly what they want to play before their first casino visit. I know people who have practiced blackjack at home and wouldn't think of playing anything else. For others, favorite games are an evolving thing. I asked a few readers who have written to me in the past about their favorites and how they chose them. ... (read more)
