We all make mistakes2 June 2019
As far as I know, we all make mistakes. Maybe there’s a blackjack player out there who always makes the correct strategy play, or, for card counters, adjustments with the count. But fatigue and distraction can lead the best of us into plays we wouldn’t normally make. A few months ago, I mentioned Bob, an ... (read more)
Streaks are real30 May 2019
QUESTION: I don’t know how you can deny that streaks are real. When I win five hands in a row in blackjack, I’ve had a hot streak. When I lose five in a row, I’ve had a cold streak. Both of those things have happened to me lots of times. The same thing happens on the slot. I’ve won a lot of money in a short ... (read more)
That blackjack argument26 May 2019
Several weeks ago, a reader shared a blackjack experience in which several players criticized a man over a basic strategy mistake. The reader was amused when the error – standing at the wrong time – helped the table by leaving a bust card available to the table. As for taking heat for NOT taking the dealer’s bust card, that seemed contrary to normal patterns. ... (read more)
Betting opposites23 May 2019
QUESTION: I read one of your old articles that explained betting opposites and trying to get your comps for free doesn’t work. You, or you and a partner, can’t bet both pass and don’t pass in craps or player and banker in baccarat, have them offset and get free comps because the bets aren’t really exact opposites. ... No doubling down after splits19 May 2019
Nearly all the blackjack tables I’ve played at in the last couple of decades have permitted double downs after splitting pairs. I used to encounter no double after split rules in single- and double-deck games, but these are mostly unplayable now because of 6:5 payoffs on blackjacks. Blackjack rules have ... (read more)
Crapless craps and busting in blackjack16 May 2019
QUESTION: I don’t quite get why the house edge is so much higher in Crapless Craps. I’ve seen that the house edge on pass or come is 1.41% in regular craps and 5.38% in Crapless Craps. I understand that the house edge should be higher because 2, 3, 11 and 12 are point numbers, and they’re hard points to make. ... (read more)
Keith hits the big one12 May 2019
For Keith, a Wisconsin reader, a 22-year quest has finally achieved its goal. “I got the ACE$ bonus in ACE$ Bonus Poker,” he said in kicking off a series of e-mails. “I’m thrilled, of course, but there’s also a little sadness that something I’ve been after for so long is over.” Since 1997, Keith has played 8-5 ACE$ Bonus Poker whenever he’s had the chance. ... Social slots9 May 2019
QUESTION: Do you know anything about the Slotomania game Grand Phoenix? It has a bonus where you pick feathers to win a jackpot. The feathers are gold to start, and when you pick one it changes to another color. When you pick three of the same color, then you win the jackpot of that color. I ALWAYS win the blue jackpot, the mini. ... (read more)
Payback changes5 May 2019
Changing the expected payback percentage on any one slot machine remains a time-consuming process for the most part. Yet overall payback percentages on slot floors evolve, and in some cases change dramatically in a short time. A reader e-mailed recently to say the returns at the casino where he plays most, paybacks had dropped from 92.5% to 90% within a few months. ... (read more)
