Taking Down Pass and Come Bets

18 October 2020
QUESTION: A short time ago you wrote about players who picked spots to take down place bets on 6 and 8 in craps. There didn't seem to be any advantage to it, but whatever floats their boat. It started me thinking about taking down other bets. I'm only an occasional craps player so I'm probably just overlooking something, but you can take down place bets. ... (read more)

Slot Misconceptions

15 October 2020
Game themes change, bonuses change, but slot machine misconceptions are forever. I know, because I see them in my in box all the time. We can't see the inner game being played on the random number generator, so our minds try to fill in the gaps. My mid-September email brought a note from a slot player who was trying to apply his old three-reel slot system to video slots. ... (read more)

Raising Bets at Blackjack

11 October 2020
QUESTION: I read that blackjacks happen an average of once every 21 hands. That seems like good information. If you don’t get a blackjack for a while, when’s the right time to raise your bet? After 10 hands? More? Less? It seems like you should bet more when the chance of getting a blackjack is 1 in 11 instead of 1 in 21. ... (read more)

Electronic Blackjack

8 October 2020
Blackjack Bob doesn’t usually have random number generators on is mind. Almost all of his playing time is spent at live blackjack tables, though he has dabbled in online slots during the healthcare crisis. Nonetheless, when I contacted him in mid-September, he wanted to talk RNG. “I finally went back to play,” he told me. ... (read more)

Blackjack the Hard Way

4 October 2020
QUESTION: I thought it was funny when you wrote about the blackjack dealer who was pitching the cards so hard they were flying off the table. I’ve had that happen, though where I live you don’t see a lot of single-deck and double-deck pitch games. What I do see sometimes in six-deck, face up games are dealers who go so fast I can’t keep up with them. ... (read more)

Trade and Place Video Poker

1 October 2020
A couple of years ago, I wrote about Multi-Draw Poker, a video poker game developed by Tim Nottke for Realize Gaming LLC. The game was a niche success, Nottke is back with a new creation, Trade N’ Place Poker, and you can check out a demo version at ... (read more)

Testing Jacks or Better

27 September 2020
QUESTION: Last week, I had a tester of a hand in Jacks or Better. I was dealt 9, 10, Jack and King of clubs and a Jack of hearts. I could hold the pair of Jacks, hold three to a royal with 10 Jack and King of clubs, or also hold the 9 of clubs and have four to a straight flush. I held the four to a straight flush, caught a King, which luckily replaced my high pair and got my money back. ... (read more)

Baccarat Rules

24 September 2020
I’ve sometime referred to baccarat among the best “no-brainer” bets in casinos. You can get a low 1.06 percent house edge when you bet on the banker hand or 1.24 percent when you bet on player, and you don’t need to know any strategy. Two cards are dealt to the banker hand and two cards to the player hand, and all players may bet on either. ... (read more)

Same machine, different paybacks

20 September 2020
QUESTION: You’ve mentioned that penny slots usually have lower paybacks than quarters, which have lower paybacks than dollars. How do they do that when the game is the same? When they make it for more money, do they code it so the winners come up more? The random number generator has to know when you’re ... (read more)

Triple Triple Bonus Video Poker

17 September 2020
A few months ago I mentioned Triple Triple Bonus video poker. It puts major emphasis on big jackpot hands by paying a royal-sized 4,000 coins per five wagered on four Aces with a 2, 3 or 4 kicker, and on four 2s, 3s or 4s with an Ace kicker. With four 2s, 3s or 4s accompanied by a 2, 3 or 4, the return is a half a royal, or 2,000 coins. ... (read more)
