Video poker can be a maddening enterprise from a writer's point of view. There are so many machines, so many different pay tables, so many alterations in strategy necessitated by those different pay tables.

The video poker writer has a veritable minefield of alternatives to consider in deciding just what advice he should give the reader. Does he go into incredibly complex and long strategies that take into consideration each card that is discarded, or does he create strategies that are not quite perfect but are far, far easier to play and much more accessible to the overwhelming majority of recreational players?

This book follows on the heels of Grochowski's first two best-selling "answer books" -- The Casino Answer Book and The Slot Machine Answer Book -- and maintains Grochowski's breezy style and high standards.

Grochowski uses a question-and-answer format to explain the ins and outs of some of the most popular forms of video poker, such as Jacks or Better, Bonus Poker, Bonus Poker Deluxe, All-American Poker, Double Bonus Poker (and variations), Double Double Bonus Poker, Deuces Wild, and Joker's Wild. His advice is right on the money, as are his strategies. Just as important, Grochowski is able to take an otherwise dull subject (after all video poker strategy boils down to something like this: "I got three of this and one of that and one of that so I hold these and get rid of that. Next hand: I got two of that and one of that and one of that and....") and he livens it with personal anecdotes and observations that make the enterprise of playing video poker have a human face.

In addition, what sets this book apart from all other video poker books is Grochowski's format, which lends itself to ease of learning and remembering. The questions and answers are all geared to giving you a complete understanding of the game and all the myriad variations he addresses.

The Video Poker Answer Book is truly a must-have addition to any gambling library. It's simply terrific.
