The right book to learn video poker strategy depends on your needs. A good introduction to strategies at many different games and pay tables is Frank Scoblete's Victory at Video Poker. Frank is a very entertaining writer. He covers the basics of playing and has strategy tables for several variations on Jacks or Better, Deuces Wild and Joker's Wild. One drawback: He does not include a strategy for Double Bonus Poker. The book with strategies for the most games is Lenny Frome's Winning Strategies for Video Poker. There is very little explanatory text; it is just one strategy table after another for dozens of variations on video poker. The Scoblete and Frome strategies take a few shortcuts to make them easier to learn and more playable. They're a few thousandths of a percent short of perfect strategy, but still very good. For the few who want to play only the best games and make all the expert moves, Bob Dancer has published special reports on 9-6 Jacks or Better, 10-7 Double Bonus Poker and full-pay Deuces Wild that include the plays necessary to squeeze every last thousandth of a percent out of a machine. My recommendation for someone beginning to get serious about video poker strategy would be to buy Victory at Video Poker. Then, if you're really serious about learning all the special cases in one game, try the Dancer special reports, available from Huntington Press at (800) 244-2224.
