For those who frequent casinos, two glaring facts hit you after a while. Casinos
don't have windows. Casinos don't have clocks. Quite frankly, the casinos pretty
much want to make you forget the outside world even exists! If you were to be
'transported' to the center of a random casino, it would take a while to figure
out where you are. ... (read more)
It All Starts with Strategy12 October 2004
In the pre-game show of any football game, the coach is always asked about what
his game strategy is. All successful coaches will have one. This concept applies
to just about anything that is based, at all, upon skill. It is certainly true
when it comes to casino gambling.
Some people will tell you that gambling is all about luck. ... (read more)
Four Card Poker – Growing and Growing27 September 2004
About six weeks ago, I wrote a column here talking about the success of Three
Card Poker. There is no doubt that it's the top proprietary game of all time.
It will probably stay that way for a while, too. There is, however, for the first
time, the prospects of a new game coming up from behind which ... (read more)
Wild about Jokers7 September 2004
I have to be honest, I've never really enjoyed playing Joker Wild version of Video
Poker. As a player, I can simply choose to 'ignore' it. While few, if any, Video
Poker players set out to lose, the reality is that MOST players play to have FUN
first. If they win, that's great! Most are willing to accept a reasonable loss
in exchange for the entertainment value. ... (read more)
Three Card Poker11 August 2004
Is there any doubt as to which game is the most successful new table game of all
time? Three Card Poker, now boasting approxmiately 1000 tables in the U.S. alone,
is clearly the winner. Few people realize what it took for the game to go from
'Brit-Brag', as it was originally called by its inventor ... (read more)
Average or Home Runs?29 July 2004
I'm not talking about Helton vs. Bonds. Although I'm sure I could draw many analogies
to baseball beyond the title of this column, I'm talking about Video Poker. How's
that? The question is, when you play Video Poker, are you playing to maximize
your long term average or are you swinging for the ... (read more)
Nothing Ugly about Deuces21 July 2004
One of the most profitable Video Poker games out there is Deuces Wild. The original
full-pay version paid more than 100%. When the casinos tried to 'cool' the paytables
off with Double Pay and Triple pay, they had little success. Even the relatively
popular 'Not so ugly Deuces' pays 99.7%. This latest ... (read more)
As American as Apple Pie6 July 2004
Could there be a better time than July 4th to continue to argue for Video Poker
to become America's National Game of Chance? I think the first step in making
this happen is to get people to stop thinking of Video Poker as a variety of a
slot machine. Many gaming publications put Video Poker in the 'Slots' section. ... (read more)
Those Hidden Gems18 June 2004
Assuming a Jacks or Better Full-pay machine, how would you play the following
hands:
A)
2C
8H
10D
JD
QC
B)
8S
9S
10S

Pennies from Heaven9 June 2004
What's a guy to do? I was in Kansas City for the Memorial Day weekend, and I decided
to check out the casinos. On the way, my wife asked me if we were going to stay
and play if they didn't have 'Full Pay' machines. After writing column after column
telling my readers to look for Full Pay machines, how could I settle for anything
less. ... (read more)
