Top 10 casino openings and expansions for September 2024

We all have our favorite few casinos we like to attend and indulge in a couple of games. In order for resorts and casinos outside of our favorites to crack that inner circle, they must update, expand and bring new eye-opening amenities. Luckily, these properties are constantly trying to get an edge over their competition. Here, we take a look at 10 new openings and expansions that have been announced since our last edition.

10. Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel to add new pizzeria
Arrowhead Pizza, opening later this year at Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort Hotel in Idaho, will serve 11-inch individual pizzas with a variety of toppings.

A stone oven, featuring both cooking and finishing temperatures, will enable the pizzas to be prepared quickly.

The new eatery will also feature a draft beer selection, a chilled slushy bar offering both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, and a grab-and-go section for those in a hurry or looking for salads to complement their pizza pies.

9. Mokbar by Esther Choi to open inside Caesars Palace
Mokbar by Esther Choi will soon arrive in Las Vegas, marking the acclaimed chef’s fifth restaurant.

Set to debut inside the Forum Food Hall at Caesars Palace this fall, the quick-service establishment is inspired by Esther Choi’s Korean roots, combining traditional and modern takes on Korean cuisine.

The fast-casual experience will feature classics like Pan-fried Dumplings, Buns, Fried Chicken, Bibimbap and Dumplings in Broth. Guests can choose from an array of rich ramen flavors and multiple rice bowl options.

8. Bally’s Atlantic City debuts Bally Rewards Center
In mid-August, Bally's Atlantic City announced that the new Bally Rewards Center (formerly known as the "Player's Club") opened. The grand opening featured a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the upgrade. Guests can find the new Bally Rewards Center located on the casino floor, near the Boardwalk.

Features of the New Bally Rewards Center include:

- Modern design elements with recessed lighting fixtures, marble counters, cool blue tones, and dark wood wall lining
- Dedicated guest service stations
- Bally Rewards Kiosks
- New monitors displaying property information and advertisements
- Dedicated lines to prioritize Bally’s Champion, Legend, and Superstar card members.

The Bally Rewards Center is where casino patrons can sign up for a rewards membership card.

7. Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa to upgrade gaming floor
This month, Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City began significant upgrades to its casino floor.

As the transformation got underway, Gypsy Bar closed on 6 September, making way for a reimagined gaming experience.

The resort will add to its diverse culinary portfolio with a new Asian cuisine concept in addition to a newly crafted bar featuring a curated selection of rare liquors from around the world.

“We couldn’t be more excited about this project as we look ahead to this next phase of Borgata’s evolution,” said Nik Rytterstrom, President & COO of Borgata. “These enhancements are not just about maintaining our position in the market – they’re about pushing the boundaries of what our guests can expect from a world-class gaming destination.”

6. Wynn Resorts $12 billion New York project
Two weeks ago, Related Companies/Oxford Properties Group and Wynn Resorts revealed new project details last week for the next phase of Hudson Yards.

The $12 billion project proposal includes:

- Wynn New York city, a world-class resort that creates 5,000 permanent union careers
- 35,000 union construction jobs during development
- A 5.6-acre public park, comparable in size to Bryant Park
- 1,500 new housing units, including 324 affordable apartments
- A new public K-8 school
- A neighborhood-focused traffic, safety, and sanitation plan
- Support for local community organizations

The centerpiece of the development is Hudson Green, a new a 5.6-acre public green park designed by the award-winning teams of Hollander Design and Sasak.

5. Point Place Casino expansion
On 21 August, the Oneida Indian Nation held a groundbreaking event at Point Place Casino in New York to kick off a major expansion at the property.

Local elected officials, community leaders, partners in the building trades and team members gathered at the casino to celebrate the Nation’s more than $50 million investment in the expansion, its team and the economic development of Madison County.

The expansion of Point Place Casino will include:

- Doubling the size of the existing gaming floor
- A new multi-story hotel with 100 rooms
- A new restaurant
- A new Perfect Pour Cafe satellite location in the hotel’s lobby
- An event space
- An update for the Fireside Lounge that will double its current size and add a 360-degree view of the wood-burning fireplace with new seating

4. DraftKings brings sportsbook to Lake of the Torches Resort Casino
On 28 August, DraftKings began retail sportsbook operations at the Lake of the Torches Resort Casino in Wisconsin.

Sports fans 21-years-of-age and older at the property have access to six DraftKings Sportsbook kiosks and one over-the-counter window located on the casino floor, adjacent to the property’s sports bar.

Woody’s Bar & Grill features ample sports viewing options with a dozen televisions, a live sports ticker, a full bar, great gameday food selections, and more.

3. The Venetian Las Vegas Convention Center refresh
In 2023, The Venetian Las Vegas announced the $188 million renovation of its Convention Center and last week, unveiled the transformation of the first completed floor of the renovation.

To be completed in stages through 2026, key design elements include a new color palette which presents an upscale departure from traditional convention spaces, luxury lounge spaces for meetings, new technology, and meeting essentials including chairs, linens, tableware, and more that will maintain the resort’s position at the forefront of the meetings industry.

The renovation will include an elevated lounge-style space for executives. The new 10,000 square foot speakeasy-style lounge will provide an opportunity to host invitation-only designed with rich woods, marble, velvet, and mirror symbolizing a romantic, layered, and modern take on the Venetian design of 1930s.

2. Gold Strike Casino Resort opens DraftKings Sportsbook
On 14 August, Gold Strike Casino Resort officially rebranded its sportsbook in collaboration with DraftKings to open the Gold Strike Sportsbook powered by DraftKings.

The Gold Strike Sportsbook powered by DraftKings features four betting windows and 10 DraftKings betting kiosks, giving sports betting enthusiasts access to a wide range of betting options across professional, collegiate, and other sports leagues. The Gold Strike Sportsbook will also exclusively feature four horse racing kiosks, making Gold Strike the only casino to offer horse racing betting in the Mid-South.

Adjacent to the sportsbook, guests can catch their favorite team, game or sport on one of the more than 50 HD screens while enjoying a full bar and outstanding dining menu.

1. Hard Rock Casino Rockford celebrates grand opening
After a star-studded grand opening event featuring Rockford native and Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen, the long-awaited over $300 million Hard Rock Casino Rockford opened its doors to the public on Thursday, 29 August.

The new 175,000-square-foot casino includes nearly 1,300 slot machines, 50 live table games including poker, a sportsbook, and a 1,600 seat Hard Rock Live entertainment venue.

From casual dining to upscale options, guests can enjoy seven eateries. The Rock Shop offers a variety of custom Hard Rock branded merchandise, and dozens of authentic music memorabilia items decorate and fill the display cases throughout the casino, each with a classic story of its unique place in entertainment history.
