Top 10 casino bets I haven't made (yet!)

30 September 2024

There are too many different wagers to count that casinos offer bettors. I have done my fair share of gambling over the years, but I typically stick to the same games and same strategies so my bets don’t expand into unknown territories very often. That being said, below are 10 bets that I haven’t placed in my career, but they are ones on my radar to give a shot.

10. 2 or 12 in craps
While craps isn’t my main game when I go into a casino, I am familiar with it and have some experience playing it.

Usually when I play, I stick to the basics of betting the pass line, and then buying a few numbers once the point has been set. I usually don’t dive too deep into the single-roll bets but they do catch my attention when I see others throwing money at them and that includes betting 2 or 12.

2 or 12 in craps.

2 or 12 in craps.

Sure, those are the two most difficult numbers to land with two dice, but the payout, 30-to-1, makes up for it. If you are having a profitable session, it may not be the worst bet to throw a small unit on this wager to really boost your profits.

9. Any seven
Staying in the game of craps, outside of the opening roll, I never find myself rooting for a seven to turn up because that means my money on numbers and the pass line are going to be taken away.

However, that mentality can be changed if I drop a few chips on the “Any Seven” wager which pays out 4-to-1 and is also a single-roll bet.

It may not be the worst bet if a shooter has already made you a decent amount of money in one round but you feel the table luck may come to an end with a seven out.

8. Three Card Poker
Similar to blackjack, Three Card Poker pits you solely against the dealer, not other players at the table.

To start, the player must place an ante wager and they can decide if they also want to place a pair wager, meaning the three cards they will be dealt will have at least a pair.

After that, the cards are dealt, and the player can determine if they want to continue playing by matching the ante amount. The cards will be turned over to figure out if the player’s hand is better than the dealer’s.

If the player does have a greater hand, the dealer must have at least a queen high in order for the ante and play bets to be paid out at 1-to-1.

7. High-limit slots
Every time I am in the casino, I find myself at some point passing the high-limit slots room, which always has bright lights and bells and whistles going off to try and attract you to enter.

While I have walked through a few to see what there is to offer, I have never sat down for a session. While my bankroll for slots usually isn’t too high, I would consider sitting down at the lowest denomination at around $10-$15 per spin for a few hundred in my bankroll to see if I could get myself into a bonus.

You never know, because as they say, it just takes one.

6. War
We all played the card game growing up, but now, War has made its way into casinos. While it is not the most popular casino game and it is relatively new to the land-based casino world, if I passed by a Casino War table, I would have to grab a seat.

Both the player and dealer get one card, and the higher card will get the win. Players have the option of surrendering before the dealer flips their card if their own card is very low to cut their losses in half.

If the player’s card and dealer’s card are the same, they go to War and the initial bet from the player must be doubled. Three cards will then be burned and then the player and dealer will each get an additional card. The higher one of those additional cards wins the round.

5. Free Bet Blackjack
My main game when I got to the casino is blackjack and I am pretty confident in my knowledge of strategy and I have found myself pretty successful at the tables with the occasional, yet inevitable, bad run.

Free Bet Blackjack is a variation of blackjack but as the game has different rules, the strategy changes. In this game, if your first two cards add up to 9, 10 or 11, you have the option to double down…for free! If your first two cards are a pair, besides anything with a value of 10, you can also split those for free. You can continue to split for free up to four times usually, depending on the casino.

You may wonder, why would the casinos allow such an advantage, but there is a catch with this game. If the dealer busts with a 22, it isn’t a bust unfortunately. In fact, it is a push.

The idea of the free bets does intrigue me so I can see myself giving this game a try during my next casino visit.

4. Six line bet
One of my other favorite games is roulette. After a few sessions playing the outside, I find myself playing the inside more. Sometimes you don’t want to have all of your chips sitting on solo numbers or split and you would rather cover more bases.

A six line bet is similar placement to where you would put your chips for a street. However, you would place you chips in between two streets so you would have all six of those numbers and this type of bet pays out 5-to-1.

So you could place three different six line bets and have 18 numbers that would pay out for you. If you wagered $10 at each spot, you would retain $60 ($50 from the win and the $10 chip that won) but lose the $20 on the other lines. It isn’t a get rich quick bet, but it could be a way to slowly build a bankroll to start making risky bets.

3. Spanish 21
Another game similar to blackjack is Spanish 21. The biggest difference in this game is that all 10s are removed from the decks. There are still face cards that equal a value of 10.

Another difference is that when players hit and get to 21, the payouts vary based on the combination of cards.

This is a popular casino game which I have seen many tables of in Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut which will see my sitting at during my next visit.

2. Betting on player
Another game I have seen plenty of tables for but never sat it is baccarat. I have seen many gambling streamers test their luck in this game and I definitely want to give it a try.

The goal of the game is to get nine or closer to nine than the other hand. You get to decide whether you think the player’s hand or the banker’s hand will win or you could choose to be on if the hands will tie which pays out 8-to-1.

If you bet on banker and win, it pays 1-to-1, but if you wager on player and you win, it pays slightly less, a $100 wager would net you $95 typically.

1. Surrounding a roulette number
Heading back to the roulette wheel, I have seen streamers use a bold strategy that when it hits, it pays out big.

Let’s say your favorite number is 17, the strategy is basically to sell out around 17. So you place chips on the individual number itself, then also on all the splits connected to 17 and the corners of 17 as well.

If 17 comes up on the wheel, you hit every combination. If it hits one of the splits or corner numbers you still make a profit.

It is obviously a big risk because you only can win from a select few numbers. I would only do this if I was up a solid amount and put my original buy in back in my pocket and was solely playing with profits.
