Casino City's Week 7 NFL Circa Million IV Pro Football Contest Picks

21 October 2022

Some big news came from the NFL late last night as Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers was traded to the San Francisco 49ers for a number of draft picks. As we enter the middle of the 2022-2023 season, it will be interesting to see which teams will become buyers and which will end up selling.

That being said, the Casino City Press staff enters Week 7 slightly above .500 with our picks after a 3-2 record last week in the Circa Million IV Pro Football Contest. Let’s take a look at our games for this weekend as we hope to continue to improve our record.

1. Los Angeles Chargers -5.5 over Seattle
The Chargers’ best pass catcher, Keenan Allen, has been sidelined since the opening game with a hamstring injury. There have been hopes of him playing in recent weeks, but now it’s looking like the Bolts are going to rest Allen until after the team’s Week 8 bye.

However, the team still has managed to string together a 3-2 record without Allen. Quarterback Justin Herbert, despite suffering a rib injury a few weeks ago, has fought through and helped lead his offense along with Austin Ekeler out of the backfield.

When these two are clicking, the offense is near impossible to stop. Two weeks ago, Ekeler put up 199 total yards and two touchdowns.

Despite the offense running into issues last week when they went up against a top defense in the Denver Broncos, it still came away with a 19-16 victory. This week, the Chargers will face one of the worst defenses in the league, so they are going to put up some big numbers on the board.

2. New York Giants +3 over Jacksonville
This is the kind of pick that "number geeks" will hate, since Jacksonville has much better stats on both sides of the ball. Yes, the G-Men are very fortunate to be 5-1 right now.

The football continues to bounce the Giants’ way late in games as all six of their games have been decided by eight points or less. But at some point, you gave to give them credit for making plays when the game is on the line and not making deadly mistakes, which is exactly what the Jaguars have done historically. Over the past three weeks, Jacksonville committed eight turnovers in losses both straight up and against the spread to Philadelphia, Houston and Indy.

So, in what we expect to be another close game, let's take the FG and call for QB Daniel Jones and the Giants to prevail over a turnover-prone Trevor Lawrence and the Jags, who don't deserve the home-field bump in this point spread when you consider they've covered just nine of their last 25 on this field, including a 1-4 ATS mark as a home chalk.

3. Green Bay -4.5 over Washington
In the preseason, many picked the Packers to be a top team in the NFC and so far, have been disappointed by the 3-3 record. In the team’s three losses, they have looked pretty bad, especially in its back-to-back losses against the Giants and Jets.

This could very well be a bounce-back week for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Both Green Bay and Washington have shown signs of offensive struggles, but both defenses have kept them in games at times.

We don’t think that Rodgers will go away quietly this season especially when he has the running back duo of Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon.

4. New York Jets +1 over Denver
No, we don’t have a copy the Back to the Future II’s Grays Sports Almanac! We also don’t have a Casino City Press DeLorean (although it would be nice) to go back in time to know the winner of this week’s matchup!

We don’t need either of these classic movie props to tell that you this year’s Jets team is in the words of head coach Robert Saleh, “playing with effort, technique and violence [in other words with urgency].” It’s also reaping the benefits of all of those high draft picks following some dreadful seasons. The offense is led by second-year quarterback Zach Wilson, rookie running back Breece Hall and rookie wideout Garrett Wilson. The defense is led by rookie Sauce (yes, you read that right) Gardner and fourth-year defensive tackle Quinnen Williams.

Denver QB Russell Wilson is questionable for this game with an assortment of injuries and if he’s ruled out, Brett Rypien gets the start, which means the Jets may even go off as the favorite in this game by Sunday’s kickoff.

The key to the Jets’ success is clear – youth and “back to the” basics football, and this week this New York team will be soaring in the Mile High City enroute to their first four-game win streak in 10 years – J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets!

5. Kansas City -2.5 over San Francisco
McCaffrey going to the 49ers is by far the biggest move a team has made so far this season. Sure, it could take time for him to get used to the new offense, but it won’t take long at all for Jimmy G to get McCaffrey the ball and let him make plays. With the defense the 49ers have, this team is even more scary now than before. There is just one problem…

Enter Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City offense. The Chiefs may not have the best defense, but when you have the top scoring offense in the NFL, it doesn’t matter as much. Scoring just shy of 30 points per game, Mahomes has a plethora of weapons to throw to in Travis Kelce, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Mecole Hardman. All of these pass catchers are more than capable of picking up chunks of yards after the catch and making defenders miss tackles.

So, in this matchup, it is going to be up to the 49ers’ offense to keep up with the Chiefs and is anyone capable of doing that? We will find out.

Week 6 Results: 3-2
Season Record: 15-14-1
