Casino City's Week 5 NFL Circa Million IV Pro Football Contest Picks

7 October 2022

After going 1-3 on our Week 3 picks, last week we joked about Circa Sports CEO Derek Stevens hopefully putting out an Empathy Package for this contest as he did for the Survivor contest. However, Week 4 was a big turnaround for the Casino City team as we flipped the switch and went 4-1 to bring our record back to .500. Now, we hope to ride that momentum into Week 5.

The injury bug is upon us and its presence was especially felt last night as both the Indianapolis and Denver were without their starting running backs and the result was a rather ugly 12-9 win by the Colts. Teams have had to adjust and adapt to different personnel, which we have to take into consideration for our picks, of course.

Now, let’s dive into our Week 5 picks:

1. Tennessee -1.5 over Washington
After a fumble in Week 1 and only 25 yards rushing in Week 2, many concerns surrounded Titans running back Derrick Henry, but as the rest of the league probably feared, he is righting the ship.

In Week 3, Henry ran for 85 yards and a touchdown and in Week 4, he jumped up to 114 yards and a touchdown. He also became the fourth Titans player to reach 7,000 yards on the ground. This is obviously a big issue for the Washington Commanders, even though they have done a solid job stopping the run against opponents. But, Henry is a difficult man to bring down.

The biggest worry for the Commanders is the offense. Washington has only scored 18 total points in the last two weeks combined. If the Commanders don’t fix those issues, then it shouldn’t be a difficult task for the Titans to take control of this game early.

To make things worse, Washington’s two wide receivers, Jahan Dotson and Curtis Samuel, are currently on the injury report.

If Tennessee’s offense continues its rhythm from the last two weeks, then the Titans should roll to a 3-2 record.

2. Baltimore -3.5 over Cincinnati
If you saw the Baltimore Ravens host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday in poor playing conditions, you certainly noticed Ravens’ head coach John Harbaugh make an “interesting” decision by going or it on 4th-and-goal from the two yard line in a tied game with under five minutes to play. QB Lamar Jackson’s pass fell incomplete and Baltimore ended up losing as Buffalo kicked a last second field goal on the ensuing drive, marking the second time this season the 2-2 Ravens have coughed up a two-score lead at home this season. What’s more, Baltimore has now lost five games in a row at home, dating back to last season.

This obviously left a very sour taste in the mouths of the Ravens players and they are going to look to make a statement on Sunday night.

Because of the poor weather, the offense wasn’t able to click like its usual self, which was demonstrated by the lack of connection between Jackson and tight end Mark Andrews.

As of now, the weather seems to be in good shape for Sunday night and the Ravens offense should be back to putting up 30 points per game like they were prior to last week’s game, so we’ll call for a Ravens win and cover in a game that has huge implications for the race to win the AFC North.

3. Dallas +5 over LA Rams
Dallas Cowboys owner, president and GM Jerry Jones said in an interview earlier this week that quarterback Dak Prescott is still dealing with his hand injury and is not ready to go Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

Having your $40 million-per-year QB on the sidelines is never a good thing, but we are sure Dallas fans would agree that it could be worse. Cooper Rush still has yet to lose a start in the NFL as his record improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 this season following last week’s victory over Washington. Rush is the first QB in team history to begin a career at 4-0. Take that Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach!

The key for Rush is getting the ball out quickly and that will be emphasized this Sunday as defensive lineman Aaron Donald will be hunting him after the Rams got smacked around on Monday night against the 49ers.

The game is going to be won at the line of scrimmage. Can Dallas create running opportunities for Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard? Can they protect Rush long enough so he has time to get the ball to his playmakers? These questions will determine the outcome. If Rush can get it out fast and often to CeeDee Lamb, who’s injury status is questionable, Noah Brown and Michael Gallup, who just recently came off the injury report, then this team will have success.

4. Philadelphia -5 over Arizona
Streaks are meant to be broken, but don’t think for one minute that we’re talking about the Eagles four-game winning streak to start the 2022 season.

The streak in question that’s going to be shattered is one that’s stood for almost 17 years. While the two teams have only faced each other 10 times during that span it’s still been that long since Philadelphia beat the Cardinals on the road. This time around though the Eagles, the only undefeated team remaining in the NFL this season, are stacked with quarterback Jalen Hurts, wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, running back Miles Sanders, and tight end Dallas Goedert. T.J. Edwards, Hasson Reddick, Darius Slay and James Bradberry are also causing quite a few disruptions to the opposing team’s offensive plans.

Long story, short, Philadelphia is flying high literally and figuratively, and whether we’re talking about football teams or birds, the Eagles are more superior! As the chant goes, Fly Eagles, Fly!

5. LA Chargers -2 over Cleveland
Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert seems to be getting back to his usual self after dealing with a rib injury over the last couple of weeks. Herbert tossed two touchdown passes along with 340 yards through the air in last week’s win and cover over the Texans, without his top target Keenan Allen.

Sure, the game was against Houston, who we can all agree, is not a very strong team. However, without Allen, the Chargers were able to put up 34 points.

Allen is still working back to play and is questionable for Sunday afternoon. If he plays, the offense becomes a major problem for the rest of the NFL, but if not, the team proved last week that they can still get the ball in the endzone with Austin Ekeler out of the backfield and Mike Williams catching passes downfield.

Week 4 Results: 4-1
Season Record: 10-10
