Casino City's Week 14 NFL Circa Million V 2023 Pro Football Contest Picks8 December 2023
LA Rams +7.5 over Baltimore The Baltimore Ravens are one of the hottest teams in football, winning six of their last seven games. Coming off the bye week, Lamar Jackson and company should be well rested but being a little rusty is always an area of concern when having a week off from competitive play. Let’s also not forget, the Ravens are without their best target, tight end Mark Andrews. The Rams were written off by most after posting a 3-6 record in the first half of the season. After rattling off three straight victories, the Rams now find deep in playoff contention and only a tie-breaker away from holding a playoff spot. The offense for the Rams was the big issue early on in the season. The last two games, LA put up 36 points and 37 points. The air attack for the Rams has been dependable lately between the route-running capabilities of both Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. The ground game is what has made the passing game much better. Defenses have to respect Kyren Williams in the backfield which opens some play-action fakes for Matthew Stafford and the receivers. Williams has ran for at least four yards per carry in his last five games, but two weeks ago, he tallied up 8.9 yards per rush.
Houston -3.5 over New York Jets The Texans currently hold a Wild Card spot in the AFC and are just one game back of the Jacksonville Jaguars for the AFC South Division lead. The Texans suffered a big blow to the offense on Sunday when WR Tank Dell went down with an injury and he is done for the season. Dell, one of C.J. Stroud’s favorite targets, will leave a hole in the offense but Nico Collins did more than step up in his absence, beating the Denver Broncos’ defense for 191 receiving yards, including a touchdown last week. Collins also leads the Texans with 991 yards through the air on the year and is going to be most likely match up across Sauce Gardner, one of the best cornerbacks in football. It will be an exciting matchup to watch. The New York Jets have a handful of their own issues. Losing five straight games after being 4-3 is the biggest problem to put them WAY outside of a playoff position. The team is averaging just 9.6 points per game the last six weeks and has scored 14 points or less in five-straight games. On top of that, Zach Wilson is set to start against Houston this week after reports said he was asked to go into the game last week and he was “reluctant” to do so. Not really the killer instinct many fans hope to have at the QB position. Another big problem for the Jets is their home record. Even though Houston is only 2-3 on the road, the Jets struggle deeply at MetLife with a 2-5 record on the season. Minnesota -3 over Las Vegas Like the Jets, the Las Vegas Raiders have a problem at the QB position. Jimmy Garoppolo leads the tam in passing yards and touchdowns thrown, but he hasn’t played a snap since October. Rookie Aidan O’Connell is the guy to lead the offense for them at the moment and while he hasn’t been as bad as other QBs around the league, he hasn’t been consistent or good enough to put up a string of wins in a row for Las Vegas. Both of these teams have dropped their last two games but Las Vegas has played better opponents in Kansas City and Miami. The big story for this matchup is the return of star wide receiver Justin Jefferson for the Minnesota Vikings. Since being traded to Minnesota, QB Josh Dobbs has yet to play a game with Jefferson. The QB is a threat to pick up first downs with his legs, but with Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson all as pass-catching options now, this offense could do some damage against the Raiders’ defense. LA Chargers -2.5 over Denver In one of the most boring games we have seen in a few years, the Los Angeles Chargers scored just six points last week, but lucky for them, the New England Patriots failed to score so they came away with a victory and cover. Prior to that sub-par victory, the Chargers lost the last three games. Denver on the other hand had won five-straight before falling 22-17 to the Texans last week. Despite recent struggles, the Chargers have too much talent and fire power on offense to be held down for too long. In the first four games of the season, Los Angeles scored at least 24 points in all four contests. There is success there and they need to find that rhythm again. While Denver has a very solid defense, if Justin Herbert can find his targets Keenan Allen and Gerald Everett, that can hopefully open up the run game for Austin Ekeler who has struggled a bit out of the backfield lately. Ekeler can get his game going in the passing offense as well where he is great picking up yards after the catch on short passes. Kansas City -1.5 over Buffalo The Kansas City Chiefs went to cold Lambeau Field last Sunday night and left with a disappointing 27-19 loss. The offense really struggled to finish drives and Jordan Love picked apart the Kansas City defense. Patrick Mahomes and Company have won 10 in a row off a loss. In fact, you have to go back to Weeks 2 and 3 of 2021 to find their last two-game losing skid. The Bills are not as strong as many had predicted at the start of the season. They looked like a top seed in the AFC on paper but sitting at just 6-6, Buffalo is shockingly on the outside looking in at a playoff spot. Kansas City has done a very good job of protecting their home field with a 4-2 record. Buffalo on the other hand has had more than a difficult time winning away from home. With a 1-4 road record, the lone win game at Washington and even the New England Patriots managed to defend home field against the Bills. It will be a loud Arrowhead Stadium Sunday afternoon and expect some firepower from Mahomes and his weapons with some offensive struggles and a couple of turnovers from Josh Allen.
