Casino City's Friday Five: What's coming up edition

11 May 2018

Let’s talk about what to look forward to, but also throw in a slot winner.

Everyone is still anxiously awaiting the decision from the Supreme Court on sports betting in New Jersey. However, this week, we have a decision from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission on Boston's forthcoming Wynn property, a risky slot player, two casino openings and some analysis on why Mississippi is on the rise.

5. Massachusetts Gaming Commission rules on Wynn
There has been a lot of buzz around Wynn Resorts and what is going to happen with the upcoming casino in Everett, MA.

Steve Wynn was accused of sexual misconduct against employees. He has resigned as chairman and chief executive of Wynn Resorts after the allegations were published. After the accusations, concern about what will happen with his connection to Wynn Resorts still existed.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission has made things a little clearer on the matter, concluding that Mr. Wynn will no longer be considered a qualifier to Wynn Resorts, Ltd.

4. Slot player’s risk doubles his winnings
Gerry M. teaches a lot of slot players that patience is key. On his 41st spin, he quickly saw his winning total skyrocket up to $22,500 while playing at Miami Club Casino.

What he did next may not turn out to be successful for everyone, but Gerry went with the “go big or go home” mentality. He chose to double down for his next spin and ended up turning that $22,500 into $45,000.

This won’t work all of the time, but Gerry is an example of those people who are brave and lucky enough to have it work for them.

3. Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City announces grand opening date
If you are looking for something to do as the weather starts to turn for the better, look no further than Atlantic City.

You may have been there already, but you haven’t seen it all. Ocean Resort Casino has said that it will be opening its doors on Thursday, 28 June 2018.

Only a little over a month remains until the 6.4 million-square foot project will be open for all of us to enjoy. Oh, and don't forget that on the very same day, another new project will be unveiled on the iconic Boardwalk when Hard Rock Hotel & Casino - Atlantic City opens its doors.

2. Mississippi primed to become 'Las Vegas South' with the introduction of sports betting

The main focus of the sports betting decision from the Supreme Court has been on New Jersey, but let’s not overlook Mississippi.

If the decision allows sports betting, the state's goal is to have wagers being placed around the time the NFL season is kicking off (Labor Day). Not only will that spark a lot of interest in the area, but so will the number of casinos, golf courses and many more attractions.

People immediately think of Las Vegas and Atlantic City when gambling and betting are brought up, but, as Casino City's Gary Trask points out after spending last week on the Gulf Coast, don’t be surprised if Mississippi is in that conversation in the future.

1. Park MGM officially takes its place on the Las Vegas Strip
The Monte Carlo on the Strip is no more. Make room for Park MGM, which should be completed later this year.

It will possess phenomenal restaurants along with a sportsbook and bar. Not to mention the obvious, but it will have a remodeled casino floor to accompany the three outdoor pools and spa.

If you won’t be at the grand opening of the Ocean Resort Casino in Atlantic City, head to the Park MGM in Vegas. I recommend doing both.
