Casino City’s Friday Five: Sportsbooks, jackpots and renovations edition

17 August 2018

Since the legalization of sports betting in the U.S., sportsbooks have been opening all over, and we have some more to cover this week in Mississippi and New Jersey. On top of that, we have a few jackpot winners, new games at Videoslots, big money at PokerStars and a Las Vegas renovation.

Let’s begin with Videoslots bringing in some new features:

5. Videoslots welcomes new providers and games
The online casino Videoslots is hosting a Summer Bonanza from 16-20 August. Players can win a share of 6,000 free spins during the promotion. In addition to the Summer Bonanza, Videoslots welcomes two new providers.

Spieldev Gaming joins Videoslots and is debuting Quake. Quake comes with an RTP rate of 96.36% and is a high-volatility slot. See how much you can make the earth shake by wagering a minimum bet of €0.25 up to a maximum bet of €12.5.

Also joining the online casino is Skywind Group with the slot game Respin Mania. Respin Mania offers a minimum bet of €0.25 and a maximum of €250. This 25-line, five-slot reel video game has many bonus features and free spin modes that will keep you entertained throughout.

The online casino also introduced several new games this week. Here are a few:

Almighty Reels: Realm of Poseidon is a slot with five reels and 25 paylines, and can be played from as little as €0.25 per game up to a maximum wager of €100.

Hidden Valley’s layout is a bit different than the standard five-reel slot. It has five reels in total, with reels one and five having three rows and three symbols, while the three middle reels have four rows and four symbols. Hidden Valley is played over 40 fixed paylines and comes with an RTP rate of 96.5%.

Nacho Libre comes with five reels and three rows over 10 fixed paylines, and its RTP rate is an excellent 96.5%. Nacho Libre comes with two types of free spins, and you have a choice to make. When three or more bonus symbols land anywhere on the reels, you can choose from two free spins options: 15 free spins with wilds extended on the whole reel (if part of a winning combination) or 10 free spins where wilds remain normal, but wins are doubled by x3.

4. IGT’s Wheel of Fortune awards four jackpots
In the month of July, the Wheel of Fortune slots from International Gaming Technology paid out four jackpots totaling more than $7.4 million. Each of the four players won over $1 million.

On 6 July, a Wheel of Fortune slots player won $1,672,498 at Harrah's Resort Atlantic City in Atlantic City, N.J.

On 11 July, a Wheel of Fortune slots player won $1,396,962 at a Las Vegas Strip Hotel and Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

On 20 July, a Wheel of Fortune slots player won $3,188,335 at Choctaw Casino Resort - Durant, Oklahoma.

On 27 July, a Wheel of Fortune slots player won $1,180,847 at Harrah's Las Vegas Casino & Hotel, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

3. PokerStars promises €21 million during Galactic Series
More than €21 million is guaranteed at PokerStars shared liquidity during the two and a half weeks of Southern Europe’s biggest ever tournament series, the Galactic Series. The new series will consist of 186 events and boasts a €15 million guarantee, equaling the combined guarantees of both the TRIO and the SCOOP series held earlier this year.

The new series runs from 26 August-13 September and on 9 September will host the biggest Main Event guarantee ever for players in Spain, France and Portugal.

2. Fremont Street Experience’s $32 million renovation of Viva Vision
Fremont Street Experience will begin its $32 million renovation of Viva Vision, the world’s largest single video screen, located in historic downtown Las Vegas, February 2019.

The upgraded Viva Vision canopy will illuminate the pedestrian mall with 16,433,152 pixels and 5,000 Nits, making it seven times brighter than the existing canopy with four times the resolution. The city-owned Viva Vision will be completed on New Year’s Eve of 2019, when Las Vegas plans to unveil it.

1. Sportsbooks continue to open
Since 14 May, many casinos and resorts have been opening sportsbooks after it became legal in the U.S. More of the same took place this week with Resorts Casino Hotel unveiling a sportsbook and five Mississippi casinos announcing the plans to open sportsbooks.

The New Jersey casino hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 15 August to celebrate the introduction of the first sportsbook on-property. The Resorts Casino Hotel Sports Book officially welcomes guests to place bets on sporting events around the world on six featured betting windows while enjoying the 12-foot video wall with 15 television screens.

Penn National Gaming announced that it will begin offering sports betting at Hollywood Casino - Gulf Coast and Boomtown Casino - Biloxi on 17 August 2018, and at Hollywood Casino - Tunica, 1st Jackpot Casino and Resorts Casino Tunica on 24 August 2018.
