Casino City’s Friday Five: Slots and more edition

There was a major step in the right direction this week regarding a state-of-the-art people mover for the city of Las Vegas. Also this week, we saw a jackpot win at a land-based casino, a massive payday at an online casino, a sports and entertainment venue opening at an Atlantic City resort and a casino celebrating its grand opening.

Let’s start it off with a couple of big wins:

5. $1 million win during M Resort’s slot tournament
On 18 May, one lucky winner came out victorious at the 2019 mychoice Millionaire Slot Tournament at M Resort in Las Vegas. After three rounds of play, John E. ended up with the highest cumulative score, winning him $1 million.

4. $2.4 million win at BitStarz
Hard to believe that $1 million isn’t the highest amount someone left a casino with after playing the slots. However, a player at BitStarz was able to win $2,459,124 on a single spin while playing Azrabah Wishes at the bitcoin casino.

3. Borgata Casino to debut Moneyline Bar & Book
Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa announced the 29 June opening for Moneyline Bar & Book and Level One Cocktail Bar & Lounge, which will add more than $12 million in development to the Atlantic City resort.

There will be a 40-foot-wide by 11.5-foot-tall LED video wall with 17 additional 98-inch and 86-inch displays surrounding the 8,000-square-foot venue.

In addition to six betting windows, guests may place their bets at one of Moneyline’s interactive sports betting kiosks. This will be accompanied by the 35-foot-long bar with 19 built-in slot machines.

“When conceiving Moneyline and Level One we knew we wanted to provide our guests with an experience that was more than a transactional venue for sports wagering,” said Marcus Glover, President and Chief Operating Officer for Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa. “We felt Borgata’s guests deserved something that would advance the market by bringing together sports, culinary, entertainment, gaming and nightlife into a destination experience they can enjoy seven nights a week.”

2. Harrah’s Northern California celebrates opening weekend
To celebrate the grand opening on 17 May, Harrah's Northern California lit up the sky with a drone light show.

The performance featured 300 Intel Shooting Star drones, which are designed for entertainment purposes and capable of creating more than four billion color combinations at Northern California’s only Caesars Rewards-affiliated casino.

“This weekend was as much a celebration of opening as it was a ‘thank you’ to the local community and our guests who have been so supportive of the development,” said Buena Vista Rancheria Chairwoman Rhonda Pope-Flores. “The Buena Vista Rancheria of Me-Wuk Indians have a long history of hospitality and this weekend was just the start of many celebrations we plan to bring to the community.”

1. First underground 'people mover' gets approval for Las Vegas
On Wednesday, The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Board of Directors approved a $48,675,000 contract with Elon Musk’s The Boring Company to design and construct a people mover for the Las Vegas Convention Center. This could rapidly and safely carry passengers in autonomous electric vehicles via a loop of underground express-route tunnels.

“Las Vegas will continue to elevate the experience of our visitors with innovation, such as with this project, and by focusing on the current and future needs of our guests,” said Steve Hill, LVCVA CEO and president.

The contract highlights three underground passenger stations, a pedestrian tunnel and two vehicular tunnels with an expected total length of approximately one mile.

“The Boring Company is excited to contribute to the future of Las Vegas, and work with leaders who have a vision for transportation,” said The Boring Company President Steve Davis.
