Casino City’s Friday Five: Slot jackpots and Labor Day in Las Vegas edition

Next weekend is Labor Day Weekend and Las Vegas has a plethora of events and performances to offer visitors. In addition, we also have major land-based and online jackpots to report, a chance to win a Tesla Model 3 at BitStarz, an annual pickleball tournament in Downtown Las Vegas, and an acquisition of a Maryland casino.

5. Two players come away with major paydays
Earlier this week, Soft2bet announced a jackpot win was taken home by a player in Sweden from the operator’s online brand, YoYo Casino.

The lucky player won approximately €214,000 while playing Global Games’ Book of Atem: Wowpot, hitting the title’s major jackpot. The progressive jackpot also has a mega win mechanic, offering prize money that reaches well into the millions.

Moving over to land-based gaming, another lucky winner hit a grand jackpot of over $1 million with a $25 bet at Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in Florida.

The guest was playing the Aristocrat Dragon Link Golden Century slot machine on Wednesday, 24 August when they won $1,099,858.

4. Plaza Hotel and Casino to host fifth annual Las Vegas Pickleball Open
With more pickleball courts than any Las Vegas resort, the Plaza Hotel and Casino is again the official hotel and title sponsor of the Las Vegas Pickleball Open, set for 21-25 September. The tournament will offer professional players a competitive prize package of $60,000 split between grand prize, silver, and bronze medalists.

Tournament directors expect more than 400 players, both professionals and amateurs, to play in this year’s event on the Downtown Las Vegas resort’s newly resurfaced tournament level courts. The event will offer men’s, women’s, and mixed amateur doubles matches as well as men’s, women’s, mixed and senior professional doubles matches.

Spectators are welcome to watch any of the matches for free.

3. Tesla Model 3 up for grabs at BitStarz

2. Century Casinos to acquire operations of Rocky Gap Casino Resort
Yesterday, Century Casinos announced that it entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the operations of Rocky Gap Casino Resort, from Lakes Maryland Development, for approximately $56 million. The transaction is expected to close mid-2023.

Simultaneous with the closing of the transaction, an affiliate of VICI Properties will acquire the real estate assets for approximately $204 million.

The property has recently invested $10 million in improvements to its hotel, slot machines, restaurants, and sports lounge. There is potential to expand the casino and hotel and capture more customers from adjacent markets.

Additionally, Century will have the opportunity to partner with a sports betting operator in Maryland to bring sports betting to Rocky Gap.

1. Labor Day Weekend festivities in Las Vegas
Las Vegas will be buzzing on Labor Day Weekend with a full slate of concerts, nightlife, and pool parties packing the event calendar up and down the Strip and beyond.

The Entertainment Capital of the World routinely attracts the world’s top music artists and the Labor Day Weekend lineup will not disappoint. Here are some performers guests can expect:

- Shania Twain is back at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas on Friday, 2 September and Saturday, 3 September.
- Luke Bryan returns to the Resorts World Theatre at Resorts World Las Vegas on Saturday, 3 September and Sunday, 4 September.
- Usher brings his show back to Dolby Live at Park MGM on Saturday, 3 September and Sunday, 4 September.

In addition to artists, comedians will fill Las Vegas with laughs:

- George Lopez returns to The Mirage Theater at The Mirage Hotel & Casino on Friday, 2 September and Saturday, 3 September.
- Nikki Glaser plays The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas on Friday, 2 September.
