Casino City’s Friday Five: Openings and anniversaries edition12 April 2024
Let’s start off with some crazy luck from the Strip: 5. The winning streak continues at Caesars Palace A visitor who hit seven jackpots within a couple of hours on Tuesday continued the winning streak. Later that day, the Caesars Rewards member won an additional slot jackpot of $319,750 at Caesars Palace, bringing the player's total to a whopping $1,482,337.
4. Kowloon to open at The Brook in New Hampshire The Brook announced a collaboration with the legendary Kowloon restaurant to build an Asian dining concept and nightlife experience at its casino-entertainment destination, located just 40 miles from Boston. Slated to open this summer, the new restaurant will showcase food and cocktails that are Kowloon favorites. The space will feature multiple dining rooms, private event space, two bars, and a swanky lounge that will transform the Seacoast nightlife scene. 3. Top 10 teams to win the 2024 World Series Just this week, Shohei Ohtani was cleared from any involvement in his former translator’s gambling scandal. However, pitchers continue to drop and hit the IL and the Player’s Association believes it could have to do with the introduction of the pitch clock. As we take a more direct look at the end goal for teams, they have six months to figure it out, but who will be fighting in the playoffs to give themselves a chance to hoist the trophy at the end of the season? Rangers The defending World Series champion Texas Rangers won the 2023 title in just five games against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jordan Montgomery was a big piece for the Rangers en route to victory, but ended up choosing to pitch for Arizona this season in free agency. The Rangers still have ace Nathan Eovaldi, who can still burn his fastball in the zone in the upper 90s. Corey Seager, who had a massive World Series, is batting .311 this season and is one of the better shortstops in the field in the league. Seager is complimented by Marcus Semien and Jared Walsh who are regular starters in the infield and have a batting average just under .300. Despite losing some pitching in the offseason, as a team, Texas is hitting .280 at the dish and knows how to manufacture runs on the board. Braves +400 In first place in the NL East with a 7-4 record, the Atlanta Braves have scored the fourth most runs in the league. A major part of that is due to the team batting .306 as a group. Nearly the entire nine-man lineup is a massive worry for the opposition. With an infield of Matt Olson, Ozzie Albies, Orlando Arcia and Austin Riley both the bats and gloves are contributions from all four. In fact, as a team, the Braves have only had two errors in 11 games. The bullpen is another bright spot for this team as it refused to allow a single run in the series last weekend. Dodgers +325 Normally I try to avoid going with the favorite as my top choice, but if you look at the roster of the Los Angeles Dodgers, nobody is going to blame me. It is obviously win or bust for the Dodgers this season with names like Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman just to give you the tip of the iceberg. Ohtani signed with the Dodgers to a record 10-year/$700 million contract with the Japanese player making only $2 million over the next 10 years and the rest of the money is deferred to after that period. Ohtani will only be able to bat this year due to an injury but I think the Dodgers will have enough pitching options for the year. Tyler Glasnow and another Japanese player, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, signed with the Dodgers this offseason as well and will lead the starting pitchers. We already mentioned the three big names in the offensive lineup, but don’t look over Max Muncy, Teoscar Hernandez and Will Smith who are going to also be extremely important to this team’s success. They are the favorites on bet365 Sportsbook & Racebook and rightfully so for who the team retained from a season ago, and the incredible pieces that they brought in to have a completely stacked roster. 2. Churchill Downs Incorporated opens Terre Haute Casino Resort in Indiana Last Friday, Churchill Downs announced the opening of Terre Haute Casino Resort in Indiana. The $290 million investment includes a casino floor with 1,000 slot machines, 36 table games, a sportsbook, and a 400,000-square-foot entertainment venue. The bars and restaurants at this property include Four Cornered Steakhouse, Rockwood Bar & Grill, The Soda Shoppe, Crossroads Center Bar and High Limit Bar. Terre Haute Casino Resort marks the company’s first entertainment venue in Indiana and CDI’s expansion into its 14th state. Churchill Downs is scheduled to officially open the property’s remaining amenities, which include a 122-room luxury hotel, rooftop lounge and coffee shop, to the public on Wednesday, 15 May. 1. Quarter century of Southern elegance at Beau Rivage In addition to Beau Rivage celebrating 25 years last month, it also underwent a recent $100 million multi-year “beautification project” that touched on everything from the guest rooms, to the casino floor and restaurants, to its spectacular amenity golf course, Fallen Oak. As part of the resort’s renovation project, the course, which has hosted numerous PGA Champions Tour events over the years, saw all of its cart paths replaced and 10 wooden bridges reconstructed, while new sand was incorporated into the bunkers. Every one of the 1,740 guest rooms have been redecorated with comfort and style in mind, featuring a Southern hue and coastal theme with guests resting their heads on the same mattresses that are found on the plush beds back in Las Vegas at Bellagio. In addition, 12 standard hotel rooms were transformed into six two-bay suites. The Poker Room, which annually hosts the Beau Rivage Heater Poker Tournament, has been moved next to the popular Buffalo Zone slot machine space and while it’s still semi-secluded it does have a more “open space” design, offering 12 tables, new furnishing, a four-window cashier’s cage, and a dozen 65-inch and larger HDTVs.
