Casino City’s Friday Five: Jackpots, openings and poker edition

A lucky guest at Mohegan Sun was fortunate enough to land a massive jackpot worth more than $1 million. In addition, we had another jackpot winner from South Point Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. Other news this week included a new Las Vegas Loop station opening, an Atlantic City property reopening its sportsbook, and the winners announced for Lucky Hearts Poker Open in Florida.

Let’s begin with a few big winners:

5. $500,000 Pai Gow Poker win at South Point Hotel Casino and Spa
South Point Hotel Casino and Spa in Las Vegas announced that one lucky local hit the Pai Gow Progressive with a seven-card straight flush, winning $526,283 on Sunday, 19 January.

This player also scored a bonus bet, adding an extra $5,000 to their winnings.

4. Mohegan Sun awards $1.3 million slot win
On 14 January, a Mohegan Sun guest was playing on a Jumanji Next Level slot machine in Casino of the Sky when they hit for $1,374,307.

The lucky guest was betting $3 per spin at the time the massive progressive jackpot was hit at the Connecticut casino.

3. Westgate Las Vegas and The Boring Company open newest Vegas Loop station
Earlier this week, Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino announced the official opening of the Vegas Loop – Westgate Station.

The Vegas Loop connects Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino to the Las Vegas Convention Center, offering guests unprecedented ease of access between these locations.

In addition, to the Las Vegas Convention Center the Westgate Station will connect to Resorts World Las Vegas and integrate with future Vegas Loop expansions, including connections to Harry Reid International Airport, Allegiant Stadium, and the Las Vegas Strip. Once fully developed, the Vegas Loop will feature 68 miles of tunnel and more than 100 stations, with the capacity to transport more than 90,000 passengers per hour.

2. Winners of 2025 Lucky Hearts Poker Open announced
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood concluded its 2025 Lucky Hearts Poker Open on Wednesday, 22 January.

In the headliner event, Martins Adeniya of London, England bested 1,162 entries to take home $512,600 following a two-way deal.

The $3,500 LHPO finale boasted a final prize pool of more than $3.7 million, easily exceeding the $2 million guarantee. The last 146 spots were all paid a minimum of $6,400.

The 54-event LHPO kicked off on Thursday, 9 January with the $1,000,000 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em opener. With 2,784 entries, the event exceeded the $1 million guaranteed, creating a total prize pool of more than $1.4 million. Fabian Foster won the opener, earning $141,365 after the final three players agreed to a deal to end the tournament and split the remaining prize pool.

1. Golden Nugget in Atlantic City reopens sportsbook
Golden Nugget - Atlantic City announced the reopening of its sportsbook on 29 January. Relaunching just in time for the Super Bowl, the revamped sportsbook introduces state-of-the-art technology with many new features.

The upgraded sportsbook will offer an array of new betting capabilities including UFC/MMA, college baseball, college softball, women’s college basketball, men’s college hockey and the Summer and Winter Olympics.

Other features include same game parlays, teasers with both traditional or alternate spreads, a wider range of player and team props options, boosted odds, a bet builder to create personalized bets, and the allowance of an early cashout.

The sportsbook boasts over 50 TVs, five video walls, and numerous self-betting kiosks.
