Casino City’s Friday Five: Casino acquisition edition

12 July 2019

The Main Event of the 2019 World Series of Poker is well underway, and we are heading into Day 7 with just 35 players remaining in the field. A new Main Event champion will emerge out of the players still alive in the tournament. On top of the Main Event this week, we have a jackpot in Florida, two additions at two separate resorts, a sports betting agreement involving The Stars Group and Twin River Worldwide acquiring two casinos from Eldorado Resorts.

Let’s take a look at the jackpot winner first.

5. $400,000 jackpot win at Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood
A local South Florida resident, who requested to remain anonymous, hit a jackpot for $400,000 on the “Game King Multi-Game” on Wednesday, 3 July, at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood in Florida.

That’s a pretty good way to have started off a Fourth of July celebration weekend.

The casino has awarded an average of over $50 million in jackpots each month from April 2019 to June 2019.

The resort also has a big debut coming in the fall. Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood will unveil its $1.5 billion expansion on 24 October, which will include a new gaming space.

4. New experience at The Boardwalk Poole at Ocean Resort Casino
Ocean Resort Casino announced a new daylife experience at The Boardwalk Pool. Throughout the summer, the Atlantic City resort will offer guests a full bar, available bottle service, pool-side food service and performances by DJs at the pool.

Admission is free for hotel guests, and non-hotel guests are required to pay a $20 entry fee.

On 25 July, the pool will be hosting a Christmas-themed pool party to celebrate Christmas in July.

3. The Stars Group enters agreement with Akwesasne Mohawk Casino
On Tuesday, The Stars Group Inc. announced that it entered into an agreement with the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort for betting and gaming market access and certain retail sports betting operations in the State of New York.

The deal grants The Stars Group an option to operate and brand real-money online sports betting, poker and casino in New York on a first skin basis.

“We are excited to announce this agreement with Mohawk, which further strengthens our market access as we work to build our FOX Bet business into one of the leaders in the emerging U.S. online betting and gaming market,” said Robin Chhabra, CEO of FOX Bet, the new U.S. sports betting brand of The Stars Group.

In addition, the company will provide support services for the launch and operation of a retail sportsbook at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort in Northern New York.

2. Palms Casino Resort opens The Spa and The Salon
Nearing the completion of a $690 million renovation, The Palms Casino Resort is unveiling the next phase of the property with The Spa and The Salon at Palms.

The three-level area is equipped with fifteen unique spa treatment rooms, four skin care studios, two couples treatment suites, a eucalyptus steam room, sauna and water lounge and coed social lounge.

The signature treatment menu features massages, reiki, facials and body treatments that incorporate aromatherapy and chakra balance.

The Spa also features a healthy menu with coffees, pressed juices, light snacks and more.

1. Twin River Worldwide acquires two casinos from Eldorado Resorts
Twin River Worldwide entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the operations and real estate of Isle of Capri Casino - Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri and Lady Luck Casino in Vicksburg, Mississippi from Eldorado Resorts, Inc., in a cash transaction for $230 million.

"This transaction continues our focus on creating long-term shareholder value as we strive to develop or acquire assets which we believe will prove accretive to our earnings," George Papanier, President and CEO of TRWH commented. "Isle Kansas City and Lady Luck Vicksburg expand our geographic footprint with assets in attractive markets.”

Isle of Capri Casino Kansas City consists of approximately 40 thousand square feet of casino space, 939 gaming machines, 13 table games and two dining venues.

Lady Luck Casino Vicksburg features approximately 25 thousand square feet of casino space, 603 slot machines, eight electronic table games, three dining venues and an 89-room hotel.
