Bermuda Government Prohibits Internet Gaming

20 October 1999

Online casinos looking to call Bermuda home should look elsewhere. In 1998, Bermuda's Companies Act 1981 was amended to prohibit online gaming operators from locating in Bermuda. Information is found in Section 4B and the 10th Schedule to the Companies Act 1981.

Additionally, the enactment of the new Electronic Transactions Act 1999, which became effective October 4, prohibits ISP and Electronic Commerce Providers from directly or indirectly facilitating gambling or pornography. The relevant regulations are in the Act's Code of Conduct.

According to an IGN source, the Companies Act can force companies engaged in the prohibited activities to dissolve, but was unaware of it actually happening to any businesses located in Bermuda.
