Goldstrike's Big Slot Tournament Back23 August 2004
What made this event very attractive, besides the prize money with a first place payoff of $50,000, was that only 100 players could enter. That cap on competition made the odds very attractive and voila, we have the second tournament ready to go on Sept. 17-19. "It was a good package the first time around and proved very popular to our guests," said Nancy Darcy, director of player development. "Coming back with $50,000 first place money only increases the aura of excitement. And this is an exciting event with lots of action and people get frenzied watching those loose machines spin out wins left and right." While none of the entrants are expected to develop carpal tunnel syndrome from the repetitive, high speed bashing on the slot machine, a little arm stamina is needed as players compete over three 20-minute sessions. The event is made even more attractive by the prize pool in which over a third of the participants will place in the money. After the $50,000 first prize, they are looking at $20,000 for second place, $5,000 for third, $2,500 for fourth and fifth, $1,500 for sixth through eighth, $1,250 for ninth and tenth and $500 for eleventh through thirty-sixth. "We fully expect to fill all 100 spots for the tournament as we have already booked a lot of players even before the formal announcement was made," said Darcy. Making the event even more attractive is a registration reception where tournament gifts are distributed, a 3 night complimentary stay and a Sunday morning brunch. Registration is Friday Sept. 17 with play to follow the next two days in the private tournament room on the second floor. Buy-ins are accepted in person or via telephone and guests can also contact an executive host or stop by the executive host office adjacent to the casino's main cage.
