Szerencsejáték Bets on the Internet

Hungarian state lottery operator Szerencsejáték Zrt., a member of the European Lotteries and Toto Associaton, is set to comprehensively revamp its betting product line, offering games played solely via the Internet.

The new product, what Szerencsejáték has deemed its Internet Game System (IGS), will target a younger, Internet-driven generation, the company said.

Currently, Szerencsejáték offers mobile (ITBS), Internet and phone-in betting services. Its system launched in 1997 with phone-in betting, hit the Internet in 1998 and expanded to mobile phones in 2003.

Szerencsejáték has said that the IGS and accompanying Web site will feature an expanded product range, including number games, betting games as well as pari-mutuel services and games.

Szerencsejáték is the largest gambling service provider in Hungary. It has an exclusive right to sell number draw games, sports betting and instant tickets in the whole territory of the country and, through its investments, it also has share in four Hungarian casinos.

Two-thirds of the Hungarian adult population--roughly 5 million players--are regular customers of the company.

Since the company’s foundation in 1991, the Hungarian state has been its one (and only) owner, while the owner's rights are exercised by the Hungarian Privatization and Asset Management Company.
