Wichita casino vote slated for August3 April 2007KANSAS – As reported by the Wichita Business Journal: "Sedgwick County voters will decide Aug. 7 whether the county will have a destination casino somewhere within its borders and slot machines at the Wichita Greyhound Park. "County commissioners came to consensus today about holding the election, which would permit expanded gambling here. "The Kansas Legislature last week approved a bill that allows destination casinos in four areas of the state -- Wyandotte County, Ford County and either Sedgwick or Sumner counties and either Crawford or Cherokee counties. The bill also allows up to 2,800 slot machines split among the Wichita Greyhound Park, the Woodlands in Kansas City and the Camptown Greyhound Park in Frontenac. "But additional gambling will come to Sedgwick County only if voters approve it by the end of 2007. If the ballot initiative fails here, Sumner County would get a destination casino instead…" |
