Westpac Vows to Fight Aspinalls Lawsuit

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the Australian: "Westpac has vowed to 'vigorously defend' a case brought against it by a London casino suing for millions of dollars linked to a convicted fraudster.

"The exclusive Aspinalls Casino, listed on London's Alternative Investment Market, claims Westpac withheld payment of stg2.63 million (US$6.75 million) from an account held by gambling high-roller and convicted fraudster Chia Teck Leng.

"The club has launched legal action against Westpac in the New South Wales Supreme Court to make the bank honour two cheques written by Mr Chia before he was convicted for commercial fraud in Singapore…"
