Unions, Resorts Atlantic City Still Talking13 September 2004ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Associated Press: "The union's divide-and-conquer strategy kicked into high gear Sunday, as Resorts Atlantic City held its first solo talks with Local 54 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union. "Local 54 President Robert McDevitt called the four-hour meeting productive, but said no deal had been reached. "…Resorts was the last casino to split from the New Jersey Casino Association - a trade group that was eight strong heading into last week. By Thursday night, Trump Hotel Casino Resorts, Caesars Entertainment Inc. and Resorts all had broken free of Tropicana Casino and Resort. "… McDevitt has had a tough time concealing his pleasure at the industry breakup. Certainly it's more work bargaining at five tables - Caesars joined Harrah's Entertainment Inc. in negotiations and Sands Casino Hotel has agreed to accept the first signed contract - but the split signals each company's unwillingness to get wrapped up in the other casinos' fights.
