Tropicana wall damage not dangerous

31 August 2007

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "An engineering company hired by Tropicana Casino and Resort has concluded that damage to an exterior wall is only cosmetic in nature and there are no concerns about the structural integrity of the building.

"The damage is limited to a wall panel in the casino's facade facing Iowa Avenue near Tropicana's Boardwalk entrance, according to Czar Engineering of Egg Harbor Township.

"'The facade is in good condition with the exception of one precast concrete wall panel that has buckled. The damaged wall panel is not part of the primary structural support system and is not intended to be load bearing,' wrote engineer Lamont H. Czar in an Aug. 28 letter to a city building inspector.

"Tropicana released a copy of the letter Thursday in response to an Aug. 17 report by a New Jersey Casino Control Commission gaming inspector who claimed that the wall and a structural support column next to it seemed to be bulging.

"...Tropicana has cordoned off the damaged area from the public so that repairs can be made..."
