Tropicana Plans to Open in September

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Tropicana Casino and Resort plans to open its entire $245 million expansion project, including the fatally flawed parking garage, by the end of September, Aztar Corp. said Wednesday.

"The plan may seem aggressive to anyone who views the five broken concrete parking decks still hanging from the west end of the 12-story garage.

"…Aztar CEO Paul Rubeli did not discuss how the company would rebuild the garage - or perhaps just the damaged section - but he left no doubt that it would open along with the integrated 502-room hotel tower and 5-acre retail, dining and entertainment complex to be called The Quarter.

"…The massive Tropicana project originally was scheduled to open next month. Work gradually resumed on the hotel and retail sections 33 days after the collapse.

"…Workers are preparing the damaged section for demolition, which could begin next month. Aztar will receive a more detailed construction schedule after the rubble is removed, Rubeli said.

"…With Pacific Avenue now open, Tropicana has begun a marketing blitz in an attempt to win back customers. The campaign includes more entertainment, the Derby Days horse-racing promotion and hotel packages that will be heavily advertised, Aztar said…"
