Track Teams with College to Offer Casino Classes

NEWELL, West Virginia – As reported by the West Virginia Herald Star: "If table gaming legislation passes in West Virginia, Mountaineer Race Track and Gaming Resort will need table-game operators, and lots of them.

"Enabling legislation is now before the West Virginia Legislature, which concludes its session April 9. If table games legislation is passed in the Legislature, approval of referendums in those counties with racetracks will be necessary.

"Mountaineer has teamed with West Virginia Northern Community College and AtlanticCape Community College in New Jersey to be ready in case the legislation passes. Mike Koon, WVNCC vice president and dean of economic and workforce development, said WVNCC and Mountaineer in November formed a partnership to develop programs related to the casino industry.

"Koon said WVNCC's goal is to have the first table game training done by the time Mountaineer is ready to hire. He said WVNCC hopes to be up and running by late spring or early summer. Mountaineer expects to hire 400 to 500 workers upon the passage and implementation of table gaming legislation.

"…Koon said WVNCC plans to offer the training at the former Jefferson School in Newell, which has been purchased by Mountaineer…"
