Tower of Power to perform at Pala Casino

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Legendary R&B band Tower Power, with special guest Average White Band, will perform at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, 10 June, in the popular outdoor Starlight Theater at Pala Casino Spa and Resort.

Tower of Power is a horn section and R&B band that originated in Oakland, CA, in 1968. The band has had a number of lead singers, the most well-known was Lenny Williams, who fronted the band from early 1973 through 1974 when it enjoyed its greatest success. Tower of Power's most successful songs are "You're Still A Young Man," "So Very Hard To Go," "Sad With a Capital S," "What is Hip?" and "Don't Change Horses (In The Middle Of The Stream)."

Average White Band is a Scottish funk and R&B band that had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track, "Pick Up The Pieces," and their albums, AWB and Cut The Cake. They have influenced many, including Brand New Heavies, and been sampled by The Beastie Boys, TIC, The Beatnuts, Too Short, Ice Cube, Erik B and Rakim, Nas and Tribe Called Quest as well as Arrested Development, making them the fifteenth most sampled act in history.
