The Reel Life: Teachers cooking meth edition

8 December 2011

The Reel Life loves the TV show "Breaking Bad," which means we were automatically attracted to a story about a 74-year-old college professor who was busted for running a meth lab.

According to The Boston Globe, a math professor who taught for more than 20 years at two Boston universities will be arraigned later this month on charges that she helped run a methamphetamine lab out of her Somerville home with her 29-year-old son.

Irina Kristy lives about 500 feet from City Hall and an elementary school and is facing charges of "distribution of meth, conspiracy to violate the drug law, and drug violation in a school zone," said Middlesex District Attorney spokeswoman Cara O’Brien.

"Breaking Bad," if you are unaware, is a show about a high school chemistry teacher who begins cooking meth once he finds out he has terminal cancer.

Kristy's son pleaded not guilty last month to the same charges. Kristy continues to teach full time at Boston University, but she has been placed on administrative leave at Suffolk University. She teaches three courses each semester at BU.

The Reel Life sure wishes we had professors like Kristy when we went to college. Instead, we had professors that, you know, actually graded papers and stuff. What's the fun in that?
