The Gap Band coming to Pala Casino

14 July 2016

(PRESS RELEASE) -- R&B/Funk legends The Gap Band will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Infinity Showroom at Pala Casino Spa and Resort.

The group was formed in the early '70s in Tulsa, OK, and received its first big break in 1974 as the back-up band for fellow-Oklahoman Leon Russell's Stop All That Jazz album. Los Angeles record producer Lonnie Simmons signed The Gap Band for his Total Experience company and the group's first album, The Gap Band, found chart success with "I'm In Love" and "Shake," the latter becoming a top 10 R&B hit in 1979. The group then released Gap Band II which featured "I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up and Dance (Oops)." The single soared to number four and the album went gold. The band's music and popularity continued to soar into the '80s when Gap Ban IV produced four R&B top chart hits including "Early In The Morning" (#1); "Outstanding" (#1); "You Dropped A Bomb On Me" (#2) and "Dance."
