SkyCity Bets on Poker

ADELAIDE, Australia – As reported by the Australia Advertiser: "After a four-year absence, poker will return to SkyCity Adelaide tomorrow, with a new guard of young players ready to take on the pros.

"To kick off the game's return, a dedicated poker area will be opened at the casino today, with a special 'Texas holdem' Tournament for 60 pre-registered participants.

"This will be a precursor to the return of weekly 'holdem', 'Omaha' and 'Manila' poker games on Wednesday through to Saturday nights.

"…A worldwide resurgence in poker's popularity – including regular television coverage and extensive interactive internet games – has prompted SkyCity to reintroduce it, with seven tables to be dedicated to the game.

"The casino closed its poker tables in 2001 because of dwindling public interest. Before that, the former Adelaide Casino was home to the Australian Poker Championships for 13 years…"
