Seminole Hard Rock slots start up

FLORIDA -- As reported by the Miami Herald: "The Seminole Tribe will begin running about 1,000 Las Vegas-style slot machines at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino near Hollywood on Monday -- months earlier than expected and one day before a vote on slot machines in Miami-Dade County.

"The inauguration of the new machines also will come two days before the state Supreme Court is slated to hear arguments on the validity of Gov. Charlie Crist's compact agreement with the tribe that allows them to offer the new slots, plus card games such as blackjack.

"The new machines are only a start. The tribe eventually may operate as many as 15,000 Las Vegas-style slots at its seven Florida casinos, according to Seminole spokesman Gary Bitner.

"...The tribe said it ordered the machines -- from Bally Technologies and International Game Technology (IGT), both of Nevada -- after the Jan. 7 approval of the agreement by the U.S. Interior Department.

"...The new slot machines will include Wheel of Fortune, Hot Shot, Playboy, Golden Monkey and Carnival of Mystery, a news release from the tribe said..."
