Rosy for Street Sense

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky -- As reported by the New York Daily News: "The mile-and-a-quarter race lasted two minutes. Calvin Borel wanted the trip back to last forever. When you have waited a lifetime for this moment, you don't want it to be over in the blink of an eye.

"He rode Street Sense slowly back to the winner's circle with the same patience he had demonstrated while taking the dark bay colt from 19th in the 20-horse field to first at the wire by 2 1/4 lengths over the gutsy pacesetter, Hard Spun. Borel was hugged and high-fived by every fan, groom, trainer, assistant starter, outrider, pretzel vendor and mint julep garnisher he could reach.

"...Hard Spun was second, and the previously unbeaten Curlin was an additional 5 3/4 lengths back in third. The crowd of 156,635 was the third-largest in Derby history, on a day that started cloudy with a muddy track and ended under partly sunny skies on a fast surface..."
