Ricky Skaggs returns to headline Southland Bluegrass Music Festival20 March 2023(PRESS RELEASE) -- LaMesa RV presents the second-annual Southland Bluegrass Music Festival at Seminole Casino Hotel Immokalee on Saturday, 1 April starting at noon. The free festival will feature seven outdoor concerts, four indoor concerts, an RV display, and a variety of food trucks. The outdoor entertainment lineup features free performances from Ricky Skaggs & The Kentucky Thunder, Del McCoury Band, The SteelDrivers, Sister Sadie, The Grascals, and Justin Mason & Blue Night. Abby The Spoon Lady will be a special musical guest and Big Mama will be the master of ceremonies. Concerts in Zig Zag Lounge will feature Donna Ulisse, Remedy Tree, Cumberland Honey, and Low Ground. Outdoor Stage Schedule: - Noon -- Justin Mason & Blue Night Justin Mason & Blue Night is one of the premier bluegrass bands in the state of Florida. A Florida-based group of musicians who truly love bluegrass and entertaining, the band has been bringing their brand of music to an expanding fan base. - 1 p.m. -- The Grascals Timely yet timeless, The Grascals make music that is entirely relevant to the here and now yet immersed in traditional values of soul and musicianship. It’s a unique sound that has earned three Grammy nominations and two Entertainer of the Year awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA). - 2:30 p.m. -- Sister Sadie Nashville’s own Sister Sadie has combined the varied talents of each individual member to create something far more than the sum of its parts – a sound uniquely their own. Rooted in forceful and tight vocal harmonies, this isn’t your grandaddy’s Appalachian high lonesome sound. Sister Sadie was the IBMA Entertainer of the Year in 2020 and is a three-time Vocal Group of the Year. - 4:30 p.m. -- The SteelDrivers Specializing in a unique mix of what might be called bluegrass soul, The SteelDrivers have become one of the biggest names in progressive bluegrass after their debut in 2005. While there’s a strong traditional streak in their sound, they bring a passion to their deliver that adds a distinctive flavor. The SteelDrivers have been nominated for four Grammys, the Americana Music Association’s New Artist of the Year, was IBMA’s 2009 Emerging Artist of the Year, and in 205 won the Grammy award for Best Bluegrass Recording. - 6:30 p.m. -- Del McCoury Band Even among the pantheon of music’s finest artists, Del McCoury stands alone. From the nascent sound of bluegrass that charmed hardscrabble hillbilly honkytonks, rural schoolhouse stages, and the crowning glory of the Grand Ole Opry to the present-day culture-buzz of viral videos and digital streams, McCoury is the living link. To date, Del McCoury Band is the most awarded band in the history of bluegrass. - 8:30 p.m. – Ricky Skaggs & The Kentucky Thunder Ricky Skaggs struck his first chords on a mandolin more than 60 years ago, and the 15-time Grammy Award winner continues to do his part to lead the recent roots revival in music. He established his own record label in 1997 – Skaggs Family Records. Since then, Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder have released 12 consecutive Grammy-nominated classics, eight of which went on to win the award, while keeping emphasis on bluegrass and other forms of roots music. He counts the current configuration of Kentucky Thunder among the best of musicians he has ever worked with. Zig Zag Lounge Indoor Concert Schedule (attendees must be 21 years of age): - 1 to 3:45 p.m. – Low Ground Low Ground is a driving bluegrass-inspired band that sonically crosses and incorporates many genres of music. Their live shows guarantee high quality music, pure love of the craft, and something for everyone to enjoy. - 4:15 to 7 p.m. -- Cumberland Honey Featuring original music from Cumberland County, Penn., Cumberland Honey offers sweet harmonies with folk, soul and a taste bluegrass. - 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. -- Remedy Tree Remedy Tree is Florida’s hard-driving, modern bluegrass band performing lyric-driven songs with foot stomping energy and heartwarming melodies. The band is focused on original music blending bluegrass, folk, and old-time music with new ideas, creating a truly unique modern Americana sensation. - 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. – Donna Ulisse Donna Ulisse is a key figure in the bluegrass, folk and acoustic music scene as a singer and songwriter with 10 albums. She has won both the IBMA Songwriter of the Year and Song of the Year awards and is a two-time Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America Songwriter of the Year (SPBGMA) as well as SPBGMA Female Vocalist of the Year for 2022. All concerts are free. Outdoor concert attendees are welcome to bring chairs and all ages are welcome. A large selection of food trucks will be available. Coolers, backpacks and pets will not be permitted. |
