Revel casino tax breaks may face citywide vote in Atlantic City

9 April 2010

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- A Superior Court Judge decided Wednesday that Atlantic City must count petition signatures in relation to unfinished Revel Casino Project state sale tax breaks, The Press of Atlantic City reported.

The petition organized by Local 54 of UNITE-HERE was rejected by the city, but the judge accused the city of delays and obstructing voters rights, The Press of Atlantic City said.

The city has until April 21, 2010 and the numbers could prompt a referendum, The Press of Atlantic City report noted.

Revel wants the tax breaks to encourage financiers to complete the project, the report said.
