Purses Increased at Hoosier Park10 May 2004ANDERSON, Indiana – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Beginning on Saturday, May 1, purses for Hoosier Park's 11th season of harness racing were increased by 10 percent. The purse increase was implemented due to the strong simulcast sales of Hoosier Park's live racing card this spring. Hoosier Park is part of the Churchill Downs Simulcast Network ("CDSN"), which distributes its product to numerous locations in the United States. More than 150 outlets currently show the Hoosier Park harness racing signal each evening. "Hoosier Park's spring harness meet has done well on the simulcasting market," said Kevin Mack, director of operations and Standardbred racing. "Because of the strong showing, we wanted to give back to the horsemen that are racing at our facility. We've been able to offer 13 and 14 races a night with full fields. It's always a good feeling to be able to increase purses halfway through the meet." The top purse at Hoosier Park now increases to $22,000 for the Invitational Pace, the featured event on the 13-race program scheduled for Saturday, May 8. Hoosier Park, a majority-owned property of Churchill Downs Incorporated (Nasdaq: CHDN), also operates simulcast-wagering facilities in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, and Merrillville, Ind. Hoosier Park's Standardbred season runs through Saturday, June 12. Live racing is conducted Wednesday through Sunday with the first race going to post at 6:45 p.m. Information about Hoosier Park racing and all of its facilities can be found on the Internet at www.hoosierpark.com . |
