Pennsylvania casino construction on schedule19 February 2007MEADOW LANDS, Pennsylvania -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Despite a major snowstorm last week, construction remains on schedule at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino. The 82,000-square-foot temporary casino is set to open in May. "Calling it the 'temporary casino' truly doesn't describe how much visitors will enjoy this facility and its fully integrated gaming and racing experience," said Bill Paulos, a principal at Cannery Casino Resorts (CCR), which owns The Meadows. "All of our gaming ventures have been first class because our visitors deserve nothing less, and The Meadows will be no different." Approximately 6,000 cubic yards of concrete have been poured and miles of underground conduit and electrical wiring are in the process of being placed. Work is also continuing on completing the exterior of the building. Interior construction, including metal stud framing and installation of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems will begin in the next few weeks. The parking areas have been graded and a portion has received the initial base of paving. In November, CCR and Meadows officials broke ground on the 82,000-square- foot temporary casino, which will feature 1,800 slot machines, a 300-seat restaurant, snack bar and a cocktail lounge, which will feature large video screens and live entertainment. "We couldn't be more pleased with the progress we're making," said Mike Graninger, vice president and general manager of The Meadows. "The Greater Pittsburgh region has been looking forward to gaming for a long time. We're excited to be the first venue open to provide that opportunity in May." The permanent casino will be completed approximately two years after the completion of the temporary casino. With a focus on diversity in filling 400 new, permanent jobs, The Meadows is set to aggressively advertising openings through billboard, radio and print advertising. Meadows officials are also participating in the NAACP Diversity Job Fair, which has been rescheduled and moved to a new location in Pittsburgh. The fair will now take place on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the Hilton Pittsburgh, 600 Commonwealth Place. PA Women Work and The Urban League of Pittsburgh are also providing assistance with identifying applicants and vendors. Job applications are currently being taken via the Internet at: meadowsgaming.com. Applications can also be done in person at The Meadows' Employment Center, which will open Monday, Feb. 26 and be located in The Adios Room next to the racetrack grandstand. "We've been overwhelmed with the amount of support and assistance area organizations have shown us in our search for the best job candidates," Graninger said. "We encourage individuals to apply online to avoid possible long wait times at the employment center." |
