Outage Interrupts Downtown, Casino

SHREVEPORT, Louisiana -- As reported by the Shreveport Times: "Was it a rainstorm that caused power to go out in downtown Shreveport, just near quitting time?

"While AEP-SWEPCO officials blamed a car hitting a power line for the 30-minute outage at about 4:30 p.m. Monday, many workers at 330 downtown offices were already on their way home when the lights returned.

"The storm put out power for more than 2,000 people across the area, including 1,000 in the Haughton-Plain Dealing-Benton area, 350 in Southern Hills, 800 in Shreveport-Bossier City and 175 in Vivian, AEP-SWEPCO spokesman Scott McCloud said.

"...Noticeable in the dark, rainy sky were the dim letters spelling Eldorado down the side of the hotel tower.

"Inside, you couldn't tell. Slots kept spinning, thanks to an emergency generator.

"'We just deal with it and try to get the power back on as quick as you can,' said Mike Whitemaine, Eldorado general manager..."
