Ocean Resort Casino opens Hawaiian-inspired restaurant

19 October 2021

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Ocean Resort Casino today announced the opening of Makai, a new restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Bringing a taste of the Pacific to the East Coast on 29 October, Makai will be located adjacent to floor-to-ceiling ocean views on the Casino Level between Topgolf Swing Suites and Amada by Jose Garces.

“As we evolve our culinary offerings, Makai will introduce American classics with an island twist,” said Warren Richards, Senior Vice President of Food & Beverage for Ocean Casino Resort. “Our ability to present more diverse food and beverage options is paramount to Ocean becoming the premier destination in Atlantic City.”

Makai – which translates to “by the sea”– will offer signature lunch and dinner dishes like the Hula Burger with grilled pineapple, teriyaki glaze, and bacon on a King’s Hawaiian roll; Fish Tacos with cilantro, shaved napa cabbage, and lime crema; Makai Seafood Red Curry with mahi mahi, shrimp, scallops, mussels, and sticky rice; Smoked Guava BBQ Pork Ribs with island slaw; Togarashi Crusted Salmon with tropical fruit salsa and mango butter sauce; and Huli Huli Half Chicken with roasted sweet potatoes and grilled pineapple. For breakfast, guests may choose from traditional omelets or specialty dishes like Kalua Pork & Eggs with potato hash and crispy onions; Maitake Mushroom Toast with poached eggs and truffle hollandaise; Cinnamon Swirl French Toast with butter, maple syrup, and fresh tropical fruit compote; or fresh Breakfast Popovers with passion fruit preserves.

Guests looking to satisfy their sweet tooth day or night can look no further than Makai’s housemade Pineapple Upside Down Cake with vanilla bean sponge, caramelized pineapple, cherry, and coconut ice cream, or Rainbow Hawaiian Shaved Ice with blueberry, cherry, and lemon flavors. In addition to draft and bottled beers and select wines, Makai will offer tropical cocktails like the Mak’tai with dark rum, orange liqueur, and orgeat; Passion Fruit Margarita with blanco tequila, orange liqueur, agave, and passion fruit puree; 7 Island Martini with vodka, lychee liqueur, and lime; as well as a shareable Hawaiian Sunrise with coconut rum, lime, pineapple juice, mango, passion fruit, and guava purees.

Makai’s debut will coincide with the opening of Nola’s Bar & Lounge, an all-new nightlife experience located steps from the casino floor. Ocean recently announced a resort reinvestment of more than $75 million over the next year, featuring the highly anticipated addition of more than 460 guest rooms and suites. This follows Ocean’s 2021 property improvements, including a redesigned casino floor with new high limit experiences.
