Monnette wins mixed games title at WSOP16 June 2011John Monnette, a 29-year-old professional poker player from Palmdale, Calif., won the world's largest eight-game mix tournament in history, beating a field of 489 players in the $2,500 event at the World Series of Poker held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas to claim the $278,144 first-place prize. The eight-game mix is relatively new format at the WSOP, introduced in 2008. The rotation of games includes eight popular variants of poker and is designed to test players’ all-around skills. Interest in mixed game events continues to grow. Attendance increased for the fourth consecutive year. The runner up was former gold bracelet winner Eric Buchman, who is best known for finishing fourth in the 2009 Main Event. Buchman won $171,855 for his efforts. Other notable names at the final table were John Juanda, who finished sixth, and John Racener, the runner up in last year’s Main Event Championship, who was eighth. Michele Limongi of Termoli, Italy, finished third for $109,245, Brent Hanks of Las Vegas was fourth, Desmond Portano of Chicago was fifth, and Adam Kornuth of Middlesex, Vt., was seventh. The top 48 finishers collected prize money. In addition to Buchman and Juanda, former gold bracelet winners who cashed in this tournament included: Konstantin Puchkov (21), Max Pescatori (23), Eric Froehlich (30), Dan Kelly (32), Eric Baldwin (33), Eugene Katchalov (36), Anthony Rivera (37) and Brian Rast (42).
