Michigan tribal casino offers sneak peak

16 June 2008

WILLIAMSBURG, Michigan -- As reported by the Traverse City Record-Eagle: "Gambling is more competitive than ever in northern Michigan, and the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians is ready to raise the stakes.

"The tribe will open its new $114 million Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel along M-72 to the public on Tuesday, in advance of a June 24 grand opening. About 200 construction workers busied themselves last week with finishing touches on the casino and eight-story hotel, where tribal officials hope to regain some of Turtle Creek's travel market share eroded in part by the poor state economy.

"...There are plenty of eye-catching features in the three-story casino. Customers will stroll along lighted walkways with water walls and reflection ponds outside the main casino entrance. Inside, a 30-foot waterfall towers over the lobby area, framed by dual escalators that will usher patrons to second and third-floor attractions.

"The 74,000-square-foot, ground-level gambling floor will include around 1,300 electronic machines, plus table games and a spacious poker room.

"The new casino will house about the same number of slot machines as the old facility next door, but in more gambling floor space with additional room for other activities..."
