MGM seeks new home for 9/11 memorial12 August 2013LAS VEGAS -- Those wishing to visit the 9/11 memorial that was on the Strip will have to wait as construction walls surround the New York-New York Hotel & Casino. MGM Resorts International is working with first responders to find a new home for the memorial while the New York-New York undergoes construction. “We are taking the utmost care, working with first responders, to find an appropriate location,” MGM Resorts spokeswoman Yvette Monet said. The 6,000 T-shirts, flags, letters and other memorabilia are being stored in the Lied Library at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, gaming professor David Schwartz said. A few T-shirts left outside the casino in 2001 grew into the memorial that remained on display until the beginning of July. “People felt back then that they wanted to do something,” Monet said of how the memorial was founded. “It was a spontaneous sort of thing.” “This memorial is definitely going to be replaced with another memorial.” Copyright GamingWire.
