MGM National Harbor celebrates successful grand opening

16 December 2016

(PRESS RELEASE) -- The Theater at MGM National Harbor opened last night at the newest resort destination in the Capital Region with a sold-out performance by Boyz II Men, the four-time Grammy Award-winning R&B vocal group.

"The atmosphere and vibe inside The Theater last night was amazing," said Bill Boasberg, general manager of MGM National Harbor. "We can't thank Boyz II Men enough for a tremendous show and partnership over the years. The fans were on their feet the entire evening and dancing to every song. We have a sensational entertainment lineup scheduled in the weeks ahead and anticipate more exciting evenings at The Theater."

Opening day began with a behind-the-scenes peek at the sound check with Boyz II Men for Theater employees. Boasberg welcomed the audience and introduced them to the Boyz II Men principles, baritone Nathan Morris, tenors Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman, with a celebratory mocktail toast created specially for the occasion.

Fitting of the trio known for their romantic melodies and smooth vocals, a 12-foot-long ribbon was carefully hand-crafted out of red roses and ceremoniously cut by Boasberg and Boyz II Men, kicking off the evening and launching The Theater's operation.

Later in the evening, 3,000 guests filled The Theater and immediately rose to their feet as the curtains drew across the stage. The fans quickly erupted with applause for the first entertainers to step on stage.

The show at The Theater at MGM National Harbor was highlighted by the group's biggest hits including "Motownphilly," "I'll Make Love To You," "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" and "End of the Road" mixed with long-lasting Motown classics as well as selections from their newest album, Collide.

The 3,000-seat venue within the $1.4 billion resort and casino will continue to host A-list performers and high-profile events -- normally reserved for large-scale arenas -- in an intimate setting with unrivaled amenities.

The Theater will host events including special engagements by Bruno Mars, Ricky Martin, Sting, Lionel Richie and Kings of Leon; multiple engagements from music legend Cher, whose only other shows in 2017 will be at Park Theater in Las Vegas; comedy shows from funny men Jim Gaffigan and Sebastian Maniscalco; UFC; cabaret-style acts and boxing events, among many others.

A destination in and of itself, The Theater allows locals and tourists to build their visits around the exciting shows and incorporate that component into their overall resort experience. It embraces the market's rich diversity while offering a variety of events that appeals to a wide array of audiences. As the most highly anticipated addition to the region's entertainment assets, the venue has attracted new events to the market, enhancing value to the DMV's tourism industry.

With the intimacy, scale and flexibility of The Theater, there's not a bad seat in the house, leaving guests with unprecedented access to their favorite artists and special events. It features reconfigurable seating options that deliver optimal sight lines, along with advanced telescopic seating allowing for custom arrangements for each event. Possible options include a traditional concert layout to a 360-degree configuration for boxing.

Home to seven VIP suites, The Theater gives event-goers the view of a lifetime. Guests also can enjoy VIP amenities including a private suite entrance, a VIP lobby featuring a full-service bar and stylish décor, personalized catering offerings and more. The Theater's three center suites can be combined into one to create the ultimate party destination for up to 200 guests.
