MGM Grand Detroit Warn Rivals18 June 2004DETROIT, Michigan – As reported by the Detroit News: "Executives of the MGM Grand Detroit Casino have warned the majority owners of Greektown Casino that they will sue if plans to develop a $350 million casino in Romulus are not dropped. "In a strongly worded letter sent Thursday to the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians — the majority owners of Greektown Casino — MGM Detroit said the tribe was violating the original casino development agreement, which prohibited major owners of Detroit's three gaming houses from locating another casino within a 150-mile radius. "The Chippewa tribe wants to build a casino and conference center with 90 gaming tables and 2,500 slot machines. MGM said a Romulus casino would hurt its customer base and revenues. "In the letter, John Redmond, chairman of the MGM Detroit, accused the tribe of fraud for getting Detroit Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick to strike the geographic restriction from the original development contract with the three casinos…" |
