Meadows Racetrack & Casino announces summer events series

5 April 2012

WASHINGTON, Pa. (PRESS RELEASE) -- The Meadows Racetrack & Casino announced today its complete lineup for its Summer Outdoor Events Series for 2012. The performances are anchored by an elite cast of former lead vocalists from legendary bands including Styx, Bad Company, Doobie Brothers, Three Dog Night and Blood, Sweat & Tears.

The Meadows Outdoor Series has become a popular entertainment venue for visitors throughout the Tri-state area, incorporating the grandstand and racetrack area of the world-class entertainment destination. This year will feature 11 events beginning May 5 with a Kentucky Derby Party and free concert, featuring famous all-female country music band Mustang Sally. The fun continues in Triple Crown fashion with additional parties and free concerts for the Preakness Stakes on May 19 and the Belmont Stakes on June 9.

Other concerts will feature Grammy Award winning artist Paul Rodgers, founding member, singer, songwriter of Bad Company, Free and The Firm on June 23, Dennis DeYoung: The Music Of Styx showcases the groups greatest hits spanning the 1970s, 80s and 90s. DeYoung’s voice is one of the most recognizable in the music world with songs like “Lady,” “Babe,” and “Come Sail Away” on July 7, with fireworks after the show. Chuck Negron, formerly of Three Dog Night considered one of the greatest singers in rock ‘n’ roll history. Negron, who made music history when he turned the simple lyric “Jeremiah was a Bullfrog” into one of the signature lines of pop music, performs along with Blood Sweat & Tears on August 11.

Five-time Grammy Award winner and legendary songwriter and vocalist Michael McDonald, whose voice is often described as having a “velvety tenderness” and was influenced by R&B, helped propel McDonald and the Doobie Brothers to success on mega-selling hits “What a Fool Believes,” “Minute By Minute” and “Yah Mo B There,” will wrap up the series with a September 8 concert singing many of the classics that still have music fans singing today.

“This Summer’s Outdoor Event Series is sure to satisfy the appetite of the rock and roll fan,” said Sean Sullivan, vice president and general manager of The Meadows Racetrack & Casino. “With the unique setting of our venue, The Meadows Racetrack & Casino is sure to be a hot spot this summer to enjoy a mix of world-class performances by some well-known entertainers.”
