Man Acquitted of Casino Guard Stabbings3 October 2006RENO, Nevada – As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "A man charged with the attempted murders of two Stateline casino security guards is reportedly back in Texas today after being acquitted Friday of all charges. "Justin Mark Ready, 24, of Lubbock, Texas, was dancing last Nov. 27 at Altitude, a Harrah's Tahoe club, when guards removed him from a stage where only a disc jockey was allowed. "A confrontation escalated, a Douglas County Sheriff's Office report said, and Ready used a small boxcutter to cut guards David Gontang, 40, and Ahmet Albayrak, 24, in the neck. Both guards were treated and released at Washoe Medical Center. "Defense lawyer Dirk Manoukian said Monday that Ready told the jury he acted in self-defense after he started to lose consciousness when a guard put him in a stranglehold. Ready used the boxcutter he carried to open boxes in the health food store where he worked, Manoukian said…" |
