IP Casino Resort and Spa co-hosts Culinary Boot Camp for local students

2 June 2016

(PRESS RELEASE) -- IP Casino Resort and Spa has teamed up with the Mississippi Hospitality and Restaurant Association and Ocean Springs High School ProStart program to host 14 local students at a Culinary Boot Camp this summer.

The students, who have shown interest in a future in the culinary industry, will get first-hand training from professionals at IP, whose talents can be tasted at a number of IP's exquisite dining options. The chefs who will be providing valuable insight and professional expertise include Sean Rodney of IP's banquet department, Matthew Killinikos of thirty-two, Chris Roche of High Tide Café and pastry chef Alfred Kever.

"We're excited to be a part of this first-ever program, and provide students with the opportunity to learn from our exceptional culinary team," said Stephen Morgan, Director of Food and Beverages at IP.

The boot camp will be held June 20-24 at the culinary kitchen at Ocean Springs High School, with a robust curriculum taught each day. Students will be instructed on valuable kitchen techniques, including knife skills, sauce basics, grilling, sautéing, braising, roasting, plus how to cook the perfect pasta and pastries.

The Culinary Boot Camp is an effort to support the ProStart Culinary Program for the state of Mississippi, and will instruct students from Hancock, Harrison and Jackson counties. Mississippi Hospitality and Restaurant Association's Mike Cashion and Ocean Springs High School's Michael Lacoste will help facilitate the program.
